Fair enough. I'd be fine with Ichiro.

I was fine with him too. He was great. And I dont think HE ever said he could hit 30. Just people exaggerating the idea that he could hit for a little more power

I would argue that not one of Adam Dunn's 462 home runs meant a damn thing.

Could say the same of Ernie Banks Homeruns

Ichiro and Mauer have never won anything either though

But you know how silly the "he could hit homers but its better that he doesnt" idea is

Usually.

If your 3, 4, or 5 hitter has the 30 HR season, that should make your offense better.

If your leadoff or #2 hitter has the 6 HR season, that likely makes the offense better.

You could concentrate on your team instead.
They're supposed to win more games anyway right? So why come here?

You came into my thread going on about why I should get a truck, why trucks are the best, blah blah married my cousin blah blah the hills have eyes. My thread was about finding a suitable replacement for a Mazda Miata. So why are you talking about trucks in a Miata thread? Why do you care? You could concentrate on your truck instead. Its supposed to have more utility anyways right? So why go there.

If we are all posting doesn't that make it OUR thread not YOUR thread.

Yup.

Funny how America jumps on the ownership/property rights bandwagon when it's his shitty little thread. He spits right in the face of the collectivist nature of such things.

What a fraud.

Banks was a shortstop, largely a position with just about a complete lack of power for almost 100 years. Dunn was in positions where you basically expected 25-30 HRs a season.

I'm not sure Ichiro could have to 30+ HRs while playing 81 games a year in Seattle. If he were in a more hitter friendly park, I think you probably would have seen him put up a few 20+ HR season.

But I wouldn't. Ernie was a great player on atrocious teams. He never played on a good team until he was finished. Adam Dunn shrank to the occasion.

That's not true. Both played for division winners.

Definitely. Which is why it was so silly when the Cubs asked Corey Patterson to adopt such an approach.

I figured you were going with the "never made the post-season" apsect

Did you follow Dunn enough to know he shrunk from big spots? Was he ever IN a big spot?

Ok, well, that's a pretty low bar.

I thougth JORR was referencing the lack of playoff appearances, that's why Ernie came to mind

I think that's the point. When he played on bad teams he got pitches to drive or guys pitched around him. When he was in a lineup with other batters that could hurt you, pitchers made him look silly. He's a guy who looks far better on paper than he ever was in an actual baseball game.

He murdered the Cubs. Many of his hits mattered to them.

His good years were early and the Reds were bad (and would have been bad no matter how good Dunn was)

He might be what you're saying but we'll never know.

It is possible Baez may have to go the Jose Abreu route and sacrifice all power in order to maintain a solid batting average.

Like when Abreu sacrificed all of his power to only hit 10 HR in June to maintain his .313 average totally the same got it.

Or that he only hit seven home runs the entire rest of the year (the same as Alexei Ramirez and Starlin Castro [who didn't even play in September]) And only has one in the homer-friendly desert air.

edit: Sadly, Jose Altuve was two HR behind Abreu in the second half.
Bump.
