Go Badgers!

Maybe some of the crap Joe B. Hall swept under the rug when he cut out of Rupp Arena is finally coming to the surface. Sordid history. Kentucky is an absolute disgrace to college bb.

He was a little salty. So what? You would be too if you lost to Frank Kaminsky.

Can add the 1500 CAT fans that rioted after loss. Complete scumbags.

The thing about that loss is that it should have not as been seen as a shocker.

The only thing I was shocked at was getting the +6 when the line opened and Wisc still at +400 to win CHAMPIONSHIP, which I cashed in on the +6 from the first moments it was available.

I thought Bo Ryan and Kamisky brushed this off well. The kid was upset but in today's world you have to watch your tweets, your Facebook post , your open mic. Bad loser for sure but that team got beat. I don't think Frank will be the next Nowitski in the NBA but he could be a nice piece for a squad looking to make a playoff move. His game will translate well in the NBA with some more work in the weight room.

I don't think it's a big deal. Of course the kid was upset after losing that game. Can you really say you might not have done the same thing in a similar situation? And I'm fairly certain he didn't realize a mic was gonna pick that up. It's not like he came right out and said it. He muttered under his breath.

Anyway, I think the larger issue is the way different generations see "the n-word". Here you had a young black man using it to describe a young white man and I don't believe either guy saw the use of the word as an issue.

These are young guys who grew up listening to rap music and admiring hip hop culture. That informs their viewpoints whether they're white or black. I certainly don't think a guy like sini is a racist for being a fan of hip hop and it's pretty ridiculous to say that he should be banned from quoting a lyric from a favorite artist because it happens to contain "the n-word". The black guys making the music aren't making it just for black people. They'd really be limiting their record sales if they were.

I also understand a guy like Regular Reader who would prefer never to hear the word at all. Though I suspect both Andrew Harrison and Frank Kaminsky might consider him an "old head".

Then there's this misguided shit that probably belongs in the Gawker thread:

http://deadspin.com/black-grantlands-ol ... 1660246252

As if a white guy has no right to be offended by something simply by virtue of his skin color.

I am an African American and if I were to tell you that I haven't used the word liberally I would be lying. I was involved in an argument yrs ago with a guy that was at least twice my age. He was a native southerner. Also African American. In the heat of the argument I used the word as a way of addressing him. He erupted and it was the first time that I'd ever recall a fellow African American responding in that fashion. I could see where the use of that word conjured up for him images of something else. It conjured up images of something personal. He'd had experiences with this word that went beyond casual conversation. It forced me to be mindful in my use of the word.

I am not offended by people that use the word nor do I get offended by people that are offended by others use of the word. The only thing that I will say is that the connotative use of the word is quite different than the literal use of the word. Connotatively the word is used to describe men primarily African American men but sometimes it is used to describe whites. Connotatively and this is strange it has been used as an endearing term of expression between African American men. The problem in using the word arises when it is juxtaposed with the historical use of the word. It also arises when you juxtapose it with the literal meaning of the word.

Rap music didn't invent this word nor is rap music the reason for its proliferation. This word was used prior to the evolution of rap. African Americans were using this word prior to the evolution of rap also. Rap music has fostered the debate in regards to use of the word because frankly I don't recall much anger about its use before rap came along. There are people who have mistakenly used this as yet another reason to bash rap music and I think their anger is miss placed.

This is how many of the "offenses" in current society should be handled. It shouldn't have been said but it really didn't offend. It was recognized as a mistake by all involved and everyone moved on.

Of course. But the things are tied together to some degree. Rap music is just something that the older guy might not understand. It isn't his music. And they're swearing and saying "the n-word" constantly. It's no different than "pants on the ground". The guy who is 60 thinks that's ridiculous. But he forgets that his dad thought he was ridiculous in his dashiki and giant afro.

Ironically rap music could be used as the vehicle that desensitizes people whenever the word is used. When an African American states that someone is their "n" that is a term of endearment and it is not meant to offend anyone. Rap music has become vilified as the instrument which created the problem. It shouldn't be. African Americans were using this word with great regularity prior to its ascension. Richard Pryor one of the greatest comedians of all time used this word during his stand act all the time. I'm not condoning the use of the word but it would be hypocritical to suggest that someone shouldn't use the word when I use the word. That's why I don't get offended when I hear whites use the word. I can understand how others would be offended though.

Don't put a mic near me after I lose a Pick 4 or 5 in the last leg. I hate everything for a few minutes.

I have a bigger problem with some of the UK players trying to go to the locker room without shaking hands, as Kentucky's opponents graciously did thirty eight times.

Well, it's probably harder to lose when you haven't done it before.

And if the shoe was on the other foot and Kaminsky would have said it, the whole world would have been after his ass.

It isn't ok but it also isn't close to the same level as the opposite would be.

Are you saying a white guy calling a black guy that name should be treated the exact same way as a black guy calling anyone else that?
