There were only two working bathrooms in the main concourse, with lines as long as 45 minutes. Even Cardinals GM John Mozeliak gave up at one point, and retreated to the clubhouse to use the bathroom

Yes, fans were peeing in cups tonight. They were peeing EVERYWHERE. I heard there were only two working bathrooms- I know the lines were horrific and I also know that some were shut down early on because toilets just wouldn’t flush. Saw three fights break out before the fifth (wouldn’t expect much better from Wrigley). Guy in front of us went to get snacks around the sixth and came back saying they were out of everything but french fries in the concessions. Maybe they forgot the game was tonight?

Quote:
I was at the game last night and can verify that peeing in cups/corners was happening all over the concourse. I waited almost an hour when I tried after the 2nd inning. It was ridiculous. I saw 2 guys who ended up pissing their pants. I was shocked. I dont know what the bare minimum standard is but it wasnt available last night. Bars and restaurants are held to it by the health department. I’m not sure why the Cubs weren’t.

Fucking Cubs

Isn't there a health code requiring a minimum person/bathroom ratio?

Also, how do you run out of food on the 1st day? Ricketts trying with the hipster restaurant business model?

Tunney should send an inspector in to shut them down.

Once the election is over the mayor's office is going to force them to play at the Cell or Milwaukee. This shit is a disaster.

Memo to rooftop owners: there is precedent for a private citizen to sue for enforcement of city ordinances when the municipality refuses to do so...and you can get attorney's fees.

So there's gonna be port-o-potties at Wrigley. This will end so poorly its difficult to fathom.

I don't understand how bleacher construction affects the concourse bathrooms or running out of food.

Incompetent management, that's how. And bigfan wanted to blame the unions!

I brought this up with the rats, how is Wrigley not shut down for this now? Not enough bathrooms has to be a health and safety violation. The safety part because you have so many people waiting in a tight space. Gotta be a fire code violation.

[Cubs spokesman Julian] Green acknowledged that "with 35,000 fans showing up in the ballpark tonight, we were simply not prepared to handle guests during peak periods."

As if the Cubs aren't used to having that many in the ballpark?

What exactly are the peak periods for using the bathroom at a baseball game?
From the time that the gates open until the first pitch?
From inning one until inning nine?
After the game is over when the crowd is exiting?

Really sad. Really pathetic. This should never be acceptable, but I guess this is what happens when you try to renovate a 100+ year old ballpark in season.

Impossible to defend Cubs from Tom down on this. Complete and utter trainwreck. This is national news and that's unacceptable

How many bathrooms are closed due to the renovations?

But the Cubs knew they were 2 bathrooms short before the game started. I'm sure most of the fans didn't know that.

So did they make an announcement before the game telling the fans the bathroom situation? Maybe, if informed, some of the REALLY SMART FANS would limit their drink intake?

No. Cubs wouldn't want to do that, cuz then you cut the they'd take a hit on concession sales. So let them all find when they need to piss that the line outside the door is 100 deep.

You saying it's "really sad" made me LOL. So sad. I can't think of anything more sad than this. Really really sad.

The over-dramatization of this is silly. 2 bathrooms broke. It sucked for everyone there. So for the next game, they will either fix it or wheel in portable toilets.

I would say 3rd inning, 6th inning and when the game is over are the peak periods. Speaking for myself, I need to piss after 3 beers. Which would be in the 3rd and 6th and the game's conclusion. Most people are probably like me.

"really sad" as in 'a sad state of affairs.' Of course losing a parent or a spouse would be worse, but that doesn't make the Cubs situation any less pathetic.

Is is really possible to over dramatize a fucking ball park running out of hot dog buns? On opening nite, nationally televised, with a new manager, updated ball park, and your bigtime free agent pitcher on the mound? I think "sad" and "pathetic" pretty much nails it down.

Yes, you just did it again. They can fix hot dogs and toilets for the next game. It's really not a big deal.

The concourse bathrooms might have been effected by the construction. Maybe they had to shut off the valves cuz the pipes go to the construction site. And it's not ready to take the flow yet. I don't know. Something like that.

Be nice if they would explain why. Maybe they don't want to say it's because of the construction cuz people would say they should have known this and played at THE CELL.

Running out of food doesn't make sense, though.
