Maddon is meaningless. Not his fault when they lose. Not his credit when they win. The team wouldn't be any better or worse with Ricky "Raw Deal" Renteria managing. But they'd have a lot more revenue to spend on top free agents and hot prospects. Maybe if they didn't throw away foolish money on managers, they wouldn't need to blight the sky with video boards.

But the funniest and most ridiculous is, as usual, dan bernstein. Maddon is everything bernstein usually hates in a manager. How. do. funny. outfits. and. clubhouse. animals. GET YOU CLOSER TO A CHAMPIONSHIP????? Maddon actually said the thing that made the 2008 Rays AL champs was that they started two fights in spring training.

Outside of him keeping his job, that was the best dismissal ever. Got all his money, plus a bonus, plus offered to keep a job in the system.

I know its very rare for a coach to stay in such a situation, but if I was Ricky I would have stuck around. He could have shared in the success if things go well, but if things crash, he is not to be blamed. Plus, if they ever chose to get rid of Maddon, he might have got another shot as he really did nothing wrong.

Of course would never blame him for leaving, but "deserving better?"? Not sure he could get much better.
