That's what I'm wondering as well. You're pulled over for a broken tail light and then you end up running?

This is the entire embodiment of the difference between being black and white in America in a two sentence paragraph.

South Carolina though. Cracker jury and he gets off.

The argument: Yeah he was running, how do I know he's not gonna reach for his gun in his waste band, turn quick and shoot?

It's a bullshit argument. But a racist jury would buy it.

Serious:
Why did the guy run? Didn't want to go to jail for back child support? Well, guess he does not have to worry about jail now. And as for the "hero cop"???...Seriously...that dude took off running and I'm pretty sure my 89 year old dad could have run him down pretty easily. Didn't look like he had any wheels. That said....if he felt the need to shoot.....shoot the MF'er in the leg(s) right? Nope. 8 shots to the back !!! Pussy fucking "hero" !!!! The video is "great" in that it captures the reality of the situation and that fucker cop planting the taser right?? If there is a "hero" here...its the guy taking the video.

Whole situation sucks!

cops are trained to shoot to kill. and for good reason, an animal (or black guy) is most dangerous when wounded.

but thats the point of discretion and shooting only when directly threatened. they are trained to do that as well. the video clearly shows the cop making the decision to kill a guy, and basically he only got to that point because his taser missed. its really sad to see a man killed just because other mans ego got the best of him....

its about time. i understand it will hinder their jobs to wear those things all the time (i would have a dui if the cop had a camera on him and couldnt use discretion to send me home)

im ok with it though since they put cameras on us all over public areas. we always have them on us, why shouldnt we have them on the cops. it does work both ways, it always has. there was a time where cops were regarded as citizens........

That's what it was. Embarrassed that he failed with the Taser. So he said "Fuck it".

But the 2nd step in a situation like is the billy club. Run him down and beat him that way.

Once again, cop is gonna say "I thought he was gonna turn and shoot"

American police killed more people in March (111) than the entire UK police have killed since 1900

Yeah. Those numbers are real.

A total of 111 people were killed by police in the United States in March of 2015. Since 1900, in the entire United Kingdom, 52 people have been killed by police.

Don't bother adjusting for population differences, or poverty, or mental illness, or anything else. The sheer fact that American police kill TWICE as many people per month as police have killed in the modern history of the United Kingdom is sick, preposterous, and alarming.

In March:

Police beat Phillip White to death in New Jersey. He was unarmed.

Police shot and killed Meagan Hockaday, a 26-year-old mother of three.

Police shot and killed Nicholas Thomas, an unarmed man on his job at Goodyear in metro Atlanta.

Police shot and killed Anthony Hill, an unarmed war veteran fighting through mental illness, in metro Atlanta.

I could tell 107 more of those stories.

This has to end.

Its going to be hard for him to have any plausible story now because he's already been caught lying. Whatever he says, it will be his second version of the events.

And I dont think it was embarrassment. I think there are cops out there looking for a reason and trying to grab the cop's taser definitely qualifies.

it never used to though. you could fight a cop and he would use his training and batton to hold you down until his friends got there to properly beat the shit out of you. killing people was always the last thing on their mind, but these days its obvious for a lot of them they wake up wondering if they will get a chance to kill someone today

Yeah, there is a lot more gun use in general.

But I know of cops who kept saying "once you try and take my weapon, you are no longer unarmed" as a way of defending Darren Wilson. So, I would guess they think a struggle with a taser falls under that umbrella

Perhaps, though I think it's infinitely more common for them to wake up and wonder if they will be killed today (based on the number of guns floating around). And with events such as this occurring, the job for honest police officers gets even more difficult.

that is true... our gun culture caused this. to say 'if good people dont have guns then bad people will be the only ones that have them' simply isnt true. uk is a perfect example.

In no way was this justified and I don't want to blame the victim...I'm just curious what happened.

Nation Hopeful There Will Be Equally Random Chance Of Justice For Future Victims Of Police Abuse
NEWS IN BRIEF • Crime • Justice • News • ISSUE 51•14 • Apr 8, 2015
Facebook0Twitter0Google Plus0

WASHINGTON—Describing the murder charges brought against a white South Carolina police officer who was filmed shooting an unarmed black man as an encouraging step in the right direction, the American populace reported Wednesday they were hopeful that future victims of police abuse would have an equally random chance of receiving justice. “The number of law enforcement officers who have shot unarmed civilians and gone free over the past year has been extremely discouraging, but the fact that this policeman was arrested so swiftly shows that there can be justice for victims so long as a bystander is nearby, has a camera phone on them, captures the whole interaction, and several dozen other circumstances play out in the precise sequence,” said North Charleston, SC resident Jenine Williams, echoing the sentiments of millions of Americans who told reporters they have faith that, as long as a fair-minded eyewitness happens to be passing by at the exact right time; has the inclination to stop and film; an unobstructed view; enough battery life and memory on their phone; a steady hand; the forethought to start filming an interaction with the police before it escalates into violence; is close enough to get detailed footage, but far enough away to avoid being shot themselves or seen by the officer and potentially having their phone confiscated; and it is daytime, then justice would certainly be served. “I have a 17-year-old son who I worry about every day when he heads out into our neighborhood. But now I can take heart knowing that if, God forbid, he were ever in a situation like this, there would be a tiny fraction of a chance that every single element would fall into place and my family would receive the fair and just legal outcome we deserve.” The nation added that they were also hopeful the situation would change the behavior of police officers by making them look around to see if anyone was filming them before they moved from excessive to lethal force.

A couple thoughts based on posts in this thread.
Why did he run? Well who knows what that cop said to him. Maybe he was scared of the cop. The cop appeared to be ready to pull his service piece so who knows, perhaps he had pulled it on him earlier. Maybe he said something that scared this guy. Being black in SC and getting pulled over by a white cop might be scary as fuck given the trigger happy cops running around.

Someone said something about how it would have been easy to shoot him in the leg. This I would disagree with. Outside of TV and Hollywood, hitting a moving object with a pistol more than 20 feet away is very difficult, even for someone who is generally considered a marksman. I shoot a lot, several thousand rounds a year, and that's not easy.
