Really Dan? Do you think that Maddon is going to say anything different than any other manager or coach they've ever had on ? It'll be softball questions and lots of giggling and fawning of what an iconoclast that wacky Joe Maddon is .

not likely. I watched a lot of Rays baseball including the pre-game and Joe always answered any question, softball or not. S&G will have to work very hard to mess this up.

we'll see if Maddon takes a pause after hearing Goff's sure-to-come 'big boy pants' question.

We'll see if Goff shuts the fuck up long enough for Maddon to answer any question.

Who was the Bears DC during the Jauron days? His show was good too on MJH.

Blache. He of the "you (the fan) think you know, but you don't know what's going on." Also, if I remember correctly, he would place bullets in defensive players lockers if they had a good game.

My thoughts exactly, KD. Spiegel will want to prove to someone with Maddon's reputation that he's Super Knowledgeable Baseball Man and will get pissy when Maddon eventually finds him tiresome and Goff bust will Spiegel's balls. Goff will try to be Maddon's friend/tour guide.

Greg Blache was a guest on my radio show and still is alive today.

Spiegel: We welcome Joe Maddon to the SCORE. He will be joining us every week for the entire season. Plesure to have you, skipper.

Maddon: Thanks. Looking forward to talking to you and Cubs fans all season.

Spiegel: Joe, I've come up with my own formula to value baseball players. Wanted to run it past you. Slugging % + OBP - BA x WAR. That would give you the true value of a baseball player. What do you think Joe?

Maddon: What? I don't think that would figure anything out. It doesn't make any sense.

Spiegel:   Ummmm, I was just, uhhhh...kidding about that.

Goff: Joe, you hit any of the clubs in Chicago yet? I mean if you haven't, I can be your brother tour guide. Introduce you to the sisters and a few Puerto Rican women. (Laughs)

Spiegel: I'm 60 years old. I'm married.

Goff: I'm just messin' with you man.

Maddon: Hey guys, I've got a bad connection. We'll try this again next week. (Click)

Spiegel:

Goff:

Color me unimpressed.

Not a very "BIG" announcement.

Canned interviews won't improve (read: save) the show.

I share DB and Rick's skepticism but I will allow for the possibility that Maddon is the exception to the rule. He seems like an interesting guy.
The problem is that any current player or manager can't ever be honest. They can be honest about the positive things but never about the negative stuff. Maddon can't give his true opinions on Baez or the potential issues of Castro's future without it being a big deal.

My guess is that IMU could give an equally informative interview about the team.

This is very true. But I will say, I heard Maddon on W&S a little while back and he flat out told them to call him any time he did something they didn't like or understand, and he'd be happy to give his thought process. I agree that he's not going to break bad on Javy etc, but I do predict that he will be pretty open and honest on actual managerial stuff.

I'm optimistic. I'll tune in.

The transition to WCUB continues.

If this were a replacement for the weekly Len interview, it would be an upgrade. Otherwise...

Greg Blache

Good pull, SH. And Blache was terrible. It was like he wanted to be anywhere but on the show for his stupid segment. He was always very antagonistic, for God only knows why given he was getting paid to appear.

I'll take it. Whenever I hear Hawk or Sox baseball on I am ready to go to FM.

CBS is not going to let them get out of hand or have Maddon not wanting to appear. Hosts will get the word and act accordingly. Taint lickers welcome.

I dont mind my DC being surly, especially when he is under a defensive minded coach. The last 2 years have proven that a talkative coach ends up spoutng jibberish.

Agreed, I like Len and all but having him on multiple shows weekly is overkill.

Len and his goofy Schtick belong on WXRT, don't need him on WSCR more that once a week.

Regarding Julie D., to bad she's not going to be part of the mix, they could have asked her
if the "carpet matches the drapes"....

I like Len as a tv broadcaster a lot.
I think he's good as a radio guest in small doses.
As a person he seems like a nice guy but with self loathing / insincere views of the world.
