Bring the box to the local Comcast, and pick up a new one. Takes 5 minutes, plus driving time.

Have you been to a Comcast store recently? You wait for hours. The people working there are slower than the DMV.

And they said a tech is needed to properly hook up the X1 platform.

I bet Apologist could make them work a little faster.

Couple years ago was the last. Rolling Meadows location. It was a Saturday morning, but I was still in and out in 10 minutes. They had two clerks and both lines moved quickly.

I was asked if I wanted to self-install my internet and X1 when I moved into my current apartment but the install was free so I had them do it.

It is similar to setting up a modem. After it is connected, they need to throw the correct firmware at it to flip it on and get it working.

Yeah right. Not the one in Schaumburg on Rohlwing. Damn near 2 hours trying to switch suburban boxes in exchange for city boxes.

Since then, they closed most of the centers, and they are always crowded.

There used to be one in Wheaton that never had too long of a wait, but they closed that down a few years back. The closest one to me is Lisle. I think there's one in Aurora too, but have not heard good things about it.

The Aurora store is terrible. I am going to go there this afternoon, with the old box. Maybe the weather will keep people away.

Last fall I went to the location on Golf Rd. in Schaumburg and was surprised at how clean and well organized it was. I was wary of going because other locations I had been to were complete dumps, but I was in and out of there pretty quickly.

I actually do have to go to the DMV to get my license rewed and am NOT looking forward to that.

This type of shit is why I left for UVerse 2.5 years ago. I spent three days talking with them over th ephone andthey finally figured out the problem was something outside my building on their end. They were gonna take 3 days to get to my house and give me a 12 dollar credit for my troubles.

There's a small DMV in downtown Wheaton that is much better the major centers across the state. I've never been in there for more than 15 minutes. Their hours are limited, but it is well worth the extra drive if you can go when they are open.

the one in Midlothian is the craziest one i've ever been to, but then again i haven't gone to any downtown or in the city
when i was there a few months ago there was a line formed outside which i assumed was the line of people waiting for the driving test so i started walking past, then was informed by the surly security guard it was just the line to get inside the building....and this was like 11am on a Wednesday or something

With DirecTV, they can still beam a signal to your home even after it's burned to the ground.

With Cable, I'm just stuck being billed for service even though my home, TV, and wires are all burnt to a crisp.

Don't be ^this^ Rob Lowe; go with DirecTV.

The DMV has been great since Jesse White took over. They've got a bad rap from the previous office holder. But they're great now, and the website is pretty solid too.

Ditto. I have no problem with Schaumburg at all. They are consistently friendly and fast. And they have helped me skate through a few vision and written motorcycle exams, ones in which my performances were at best sketchy.

My only complaint is their payment process remains in the dark ages. Unless you want to pay a big surcharge it is cash or check only.

This happened last fall. They kept insisting that the problem was with the cables in the house, and I would be responsible for any repairs. When the tech finally came to the house, the problem was outside in their green box. Fuck Comcast. Fuck them right in their face.

I agree as well. Also, about a block away from the train, yes?

They are an 'express' so you might want to call first Tad to make sure everything's copacetic.

Yes. South side of the tracks, half a block west of Main Street.

Yes. Renewals take ten minutes most of the time.

I meant to say that as they are an express they don't really handle anything beyond quickie renewals ... like if you need to take a test or something otherwise minor, that's a no-go.

57th and Western. I dropped off some equipment about a month ago. It was crowded as hell, but to their credit, they were getting people in and out. And this was on a Saturday morning.

Waiting five days to get a new cable box is unacceptable, so I decided to go to the Comcast store, to swap the old one for a new one. The Wheaton store is closed, so I had to drive to Aurora. Upon arriving in Aurora, I realize that this store has also been closed, presumably for the convenience of their customers. My choices are Joilet, Elmhurst, or Bolingbrook, so I head to Bolingbrook. I wait for my name to be called, and I approach the counter. I explain what happened to the box, and ask for a new one. She tells me that they don't have any X1 boxes in the store. This is their new platform, which they have been advertising ad naseum, but they don't have any in the store. She asks if I want one shipped to my house. I asked how long that would take, and she said one week. When I asked why I would wait one week, when a tech is scheduled to come over in five days, she says nothing, but has a puzzled look on her face. I told her, no thank you, and that I was going home to call Direct TV. They wouldn't even let my four year old use the bathroom. We will be calling Direct TV tonight. I am still going to have Comcast send out the tech with the new box, and then I am going to cancel. Fuck them.

The Bolingbrook store is huge, much bigger than Wheaton or Aurora. What is the point of a store that big, if you don't even have shelves full of the newest boxes? Are people returning old, shitty boxes for refurbished, yet old, shitty boxes, rather than the new X1 boxes? None of this makes sense.

I don't want to lose channels when they have contract disputes with the networks, like Dish Network does. Plus, I think I can get NFL Sunday Ticket for free next year.
