Seriously Bernstein, you have to dump all over a kid today after winning the greatest of golf tournaments---The Masters---at twenty-two years of age while shooting one of the lowest rounds ever for Augusta? And all you can say is he does not excite you enough? Not every one can be John McEnroe.

As a golfer, which Bernstein apparently knows nothing of for not being any sort of athlete, it is a good thing that Spieth is soft-spoken and humble. Having an ego would only get in the way of being a good player. I though he was very gracious in recognizing the contribution of his caddy during his ceremony speech.

What Bernstein is obviously missing is shouldn't we golf fans be ecstatic of there being some really great players---both young and old--- who are competing at a high level right now to give us the best golf competition seen since Nicklaus and Gary Player were in their prime? It's fantastic for the sport.

While it's remarkable what Spieth accomplished at the Masters, the P.G.A. championship last year was every bit as good as the Masters this year.

In a sense it is like the people that bitch about no dominant force in a league like NFL, MLB etc. No machine or dynasty to admire. They say parity sucks. I say it is great. I like that lots of teams have a chance to win and it is better overall.

Golf will be infinitely more interesting with 4-8 great players than just a single Tiger.

lol you guys are speaking as if golf is a sport.

it is equivalent to beer pong. it can be incredibly hard, and some people both young and old are incredibly good at it, but nobody unless their drunk calls it a sport. its a unique acquired skill. no athleticism needed- you can be 21 or 71 and have about the same shot at winning as long as you practice enough. kinda like a yo-yo, remember the 80's?

if you ever lump golf in with nba mlb or nfl again i will answer your moms pleas to fuck her

Yea, I listened to this while driving to Indy. I have never seen a guy have a more difficult time just enjoying a great moment in a sporting event. Berns shits in everyone's cereal.

The kid really seems to be grounded, and very mature for his age. One would think Bernstein could appreciate this, seeing as how much joy he gets in saying that Derrick Rose behaves like a child, and not a grown ass man.

Berns just takes the opposite position from whatever is popular with the masses.

I was always under the impression that Spieth was a petulant little asshole when he wasn't birdie-ing every other hole.

But I gave him the benefit of the doubt since he was basically a teenager.

Stop the hate listening. It doesn't matter how you listen as long as you are. I still haven't dialed in since the last post saying I wouldn't. I don't miss it as I'd love for Boers to be with a better partner. It's wishful thinking so I'll watch everyone hate post here amused.

If you hate listen, it's still ratings.

I agree with him. I'm not tuning into a tournament because Jordan Spieth is on the leaderboard.

I was still more interested in Tiger and Phil on Sunday than Jordan Spieth.

That's not the point, rather it's about Bernstein's defect of character that he has to make an ass out of himself by dumping on someone for no reason after he won a huge tournament. You have to be wired wrong just to think the way Bernstein does. He must have been abused and bullied as a child in school for him to have developed such a warped and degenerate mindset.

Bernstein falls into the category of people that have to belittle others for himself to feel good.

Yes, there is athletic ability involved in swinging a golf club.

bernstein's comments on spieth are very shortsighted. He complains that spieth just doesnt get him excited to watch golf... which is partially true for me, it doesnt compare to tiger dominance in tiger's heyday .... but if spieth wins 2-3 more majors over the next few years then his name will carry more weight.

Bernstein just isn't a fan of golf. If you are, like I am, then this weekend was awesome. Arnie battled through a shoulder injury, to take his honorary tee shot. Jack got a hole in one in the par 3 contest. Tiger showed that he still has some gas left in the tank. Ben Crenshaw had his emotional Masters farewell moment. The big guns played great golf on the weekend, and a 21 year old broke some of Tiger's records, and had the lowest score EVER at the Masters at one point on Sunday.

The Masters is truly a tradition unlike any other.

So we should only be excited about multiple major winners. Got it. Cabrera must do it for you.

Until his kid takes up golf, then Bersie will be telling us how great it is, the proper swing techniques, the mental approach to the greatest game.....etc...

Dan absolutely is a fan of golf. There's way too much golf talk on the show, considering it's golf.

Hasn't Dan gushed about how amazing it is that the University of Georgia or whichever college golf program it is keeps churning out elite players every year? Wouldn't this be that?

Whatever Bernstein said, the problem isn't Spieth, it's with the people trying to make him into Tiger. Golf is so desperate for remotely interesting stars that every player who wins a major in their 20s is either annointed the next Tiger or the subject of some guarantee that "golf is in very good hands for a long time to come." (I.e., Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley). Personally I think Spieth seems more interesting than McIlroy. McIlroy would have been much better off maintaining the Jonah Hill look he had when he first came out on tour. Either way, it's obvious that none of these guys are even in Tiger's orbit. The black, badass mofo completely turned the old-boy cracker golf world upside down, at least for like 10 years. It'll never happen again.

But that's every sport. Everyone wants to see "the best ever". Every time a horse wins two Kentucky Derby preps in a row people start mentioning the Triple Crown. A twenty-three year old hits a bunch of homers in spring training and he's Babe Ruth. It's not just something that happens in golf.

Most of the post-Tiger golfers seem have virtually no personality and seem like they are produced in a factory.

It's probably because they spent their whole lives being groomed to be a pga tour golfer.

But let's face it, Tiger himself has the personality of driftwood. He was a big deal because he's black (or "cablinasian" if you prefer). The Arnies and Trevinos are few and far between.
