http://chicago.suntimes.com/bears-footb ... is-winstonEven after deciding to keep Jay Cutler, the Bears’ search for a long-term quarterback solution has led them to interview Jameis Winston, the presumptive top pick in the NFL draft.
The Bears will meet with Winston on Wednesday, a league source confirmed. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the meeting. Winston is scheduled to arrive in Chicago on Tuesday.
Now, why are the Bears meeting with him?
Winston still is widely expected to be drafted before the Bears’ No. 7 pick. But it’s still best for general manager Ryan Pace and coach John Fox to do their due diligence should he surprisingly become available. The Bears also have met with Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
The former Florida State quarterback is considered by some to be the most NFL-ready since Andrew Luck, but questions about his character have caused others to prefer Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Winston interviewed with the Tennessee Titans on Monday, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the No. 1 pick, is still considered his most likely destination. The Bears play the Buccaneers again this season.
Winston threw for 4,057 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2013, leading the Seminoles to a national title. Last season, he threw for 3,907 yards and played in the national semifinal.
