Only because at the height of Tigermania he was the guy with the best chance at beating Tiger and so he was adopted by the racist golf fan as their champion. Phil should wear a confederate flag shirt on Sundays.
So why is that not working with Rory, regardless of how hard Nike tries to make it happen?

I think Lefty's profile on the tour and overall got a boost when he won the Masters in 2010--right in the middle of Tiger's divorce meltdown--and the announcers couldn't mention enough how Mickelson's wife and mother were battling breast cancer and then Mickelson's tearful group hug with his family after winning.

So, you're just a fan of a TV show?

 I'm definitely not the racing fan I once was. At one point I went to live racing 528 straight days. I have lazily become a fan of racing on television, there's no doubt about it. It's an old guy habit. I could go to the live races, but Balmoral is a long drive, I like Missy the bartender at Niles OTB, and it's comforting knowing that Doug, Fritzy, and Dino will all be sitting there when I walk in. Still, I'll drive to Indiana a couple times for live racing this summer and for sure I'll be in Ohio on the third Thursday after Labor Day when the sun is shinin' and the dust is flyin'.

Who is Rory's foil? If you're gonna be Affirmed, you need Alydar. It would probably help if Sergio Garcia started fucking Caroline Wozniacki.

We are quickly approaching the point now where we can say "If not for these 10 things, the post-Tiger golfers would be just like Tiger and Phil!".

I'm sure the Spieth-McIlroy rivalry will usher in a new golden age of golf.

You're projecting your feelings on other people. I'm sure many golf fans are excited about these young guys.

Tiger Woods was like a Jackie Robinson of golf. In that country club world, it was still like the greater U.S. circa 1947. To this day I don't believe Jews are welcome at Evanston G.C. right in the heart of Skokie! Tiger Woods isn't going to happen again. His foil was not just Phil. It was racism, barriers, golf itself.

I'm not projecting my feelings on other people. I'm saying what my feelings are.

If the golf world goes crazy for a tour dominated by McIlroy and Spieth then that is great. I doubt I'll be all that excited by either.

McIlroy has already done nearly as much as Fat Phil the Racists' Champion.

Tiger Woods was a special guy in special circumstances. Of course he got the attention of the very casual golf fan like Boilermaker Rick and dan bernstein. And he dragged Phil with him. But from a strict competition and quality of play standpoint, I doubt many golf experts would argue that the PGA isn't currently as strong as it's ever been.

Wouldn't Bubba Watson and his General Lee (that NASCAR wouldn't even touch) be the better choice for that title.

I don't know why you would say that. The Magic/Bird era was clearly stronger than the NBA is now.

I am talking about personality on the course. Tiger has plenty of it.

Most athletes just give generic answers in interviews. As I said before, Jordan was pretty much useless in interviews. On the court, he was must watch television

Jordan was Johnny Carson compared to Tiger.

But Im talking on the mic, not on field/course

Phil only gets that title due to him being in Tiger's orbit. It's not an actual criticism of Phil himself. Bubba may have been a good candidate if his career had lined up with Tiger's a little better.

I have always been but was a huge Tiger fan until all the bullshit happened. Now he is just a shell of himself, Mr. Dramatic. Highly disappointing.

I am thinking the reall Racists' Champion should be Boo Weekley.

The real Racists' Champion was whichever white guy was in striking distance of Tiger. I mean, nobody ever rooted for Steve Stricker except his wife, his mom, and Dr. Ken Noisewater, but I guarantee you there were times when he was close to Tiger on a Sunday afternoon and a bunch of old white guys in basements across Mt. Greenwood were screaming "COME ON, STEVIE!!!!!" as if he was their grandson or something.

My guess is just like the NBA, the average PGA golfer is better now than they were then.
