Damn, if Bryant would have made the roster, he'd be batting fourth instead of Castro and he would have hit a three-run homer instead, right, Dolphin?

You know he's a troll who doesn't believe half the stuff he says, right?

Is it your opinion that it is invalid to speculate about the results of the biggest sports story of spring training for either Chicago team?

Bryant was sent to the minor leagues for reasons other than his on field production. That decision impacts the Cubs MLB team. It is my opinion that it is a negative impact. I am attempting to catalogue the impact.

Now, you may consider it imperfect, but there are statistical factories, such as Pro Football Focus, producing all sorts of relied upon information based on imperfect statistics.

It's not a W-L analysis unless you can speculate that Bryant's presence would have lead to a loss instead of a win. The Meter is simply at 1.

Same reason you have a radio show: I and a few people enjoy my work.

As masturbatory as it may be, I find it enjoyable. What other reason do I need?

The better question is why do you read it?

Actually, I haven't had a radio show for a year-and-a-half now.
When I did have one, it was for financial gain, not my own amusement.
I owned the show, bought the air time and sold the commercials and sponsorships.
A few thousand people enjoyed my work.
As to the question of why I read, I don't have a good answer to that, but I will try to stop reading.
Thanks for the help.

Bryant would not matter in Coors unless it was June- July. May 1 matters. He will be up next week. First ten with Cubs..6- 4. That is conservative.

I agree. It is completely invalid to consider the impact the top hitter in the minor leagues would have on a team in last place in ba with risp. I apologize for even questioning the finally going for it cubbies

Watched both Olt at bats, it was like he was slapping at the ball, swinging softer, choked up on the bat just to get the ball in play and not strike out.

Olt enjoy your last 6 days as a member of the Cubs.

I dont even want to see him sent down, i want the space cleared in the minors as well, because he will go down and be good again, preventing someone else from playing 3rd.

Age of 26 and you havent even flashed in the majors except the few HRs, you lose the chance to play...you now go play in the Twins AAA system and get a chance to make a team at age of 28 or 29 and maybe after 3 years of trying to get better you have a comeback season...MAYBE...but its time to let team that focuses on the 'lightning in a bottle" system to try that.

I don't understand why this thread has gone so long with no posts.
It certainly deserves being bumped up, doesn't it?

Why wouldn't you wait until after a win for your return?

I cannot watch every game. Could they have used him in a 3-2 game or are you comfortable with Coghlan playing there?

You don't feel the least bit foolish returning to this thread when they actually need a 3B now?

The meter is at 2. They needed him in all games since Olt and he would have certainly made a difference but only one of those games has been a loss.

We have to do this without bias.

They were losing one of those games with or without Bryant. He isn't that good.

They had Chapman on the ropes last night and Olt swung and the ball like he was playing wiffle ball.

Bryant would have atleast made some contact and maybe hit a double down the line.
+1

I hope after Bryant is called up we never see Olt or his lumberjack swing, ever again!

so if the meter in this thread has been set at 2, it should actually be at 1, because clearly bryants 2 throwing errors in Iowa's game Monday would have translated to the big league game and "could have made a difference" and cost the Cubs that 1-run win. Herrera and Coghlan played flawless 3B that day. Shouldn't the meter work both ways?

No!
The way this thing works is that you only need to consider that Bryant would have gotten a key hit (most likely an extra-base hit) every time he would have come to the plate for the Cubs if he had not been sent down.

That is a good point.

In regard to the bold section, the better question would be to ask why Cubs brass refuses to play him in the OF? I think he has shown that he likely will never be an adequate MLB 3rd baseman with the glove.

He's an outfielder.

He's an outfielder.

who has never played even one inning of OF as a professional at any level (aside from a game or two in spring training). like it or not, the guy is going to be playing 3B.

if you think you have a better metric, start your own meter and we will let the peer review and the scientific process determine superiority

Apparently some people (including Cubs brass) think Bryant can play 3B

no, i think the metric of every AB Bryant "could" have had at the big league level would have been a clutch run-scoring hit, and that any game that the cubs lose by less than 4 runs is a +1 and that he would have no potential negative impact on the Cubs lineup or on the field is the most scientific method and the way to go.
