uh, even eric clapton thinks he was the greatest guitar player to ever live. jimi could play anything with very little practice. it pissed off clapton to no end- and clapton is somewhat of a decent guitar player himself. somewhat decent....

The issue with the perception of Hendrix is that guys my age and younger have watched thousands of guys do stuff with a guitar that he did and more. He should get his due and be enjoyed but I am kinda done with worshiping everything from the 60's.

As a young lad I loved the mixes on WBMX. But I grew up also listening to Mocedades...Mecano...tango...southern gospel quartets...the black gospel choirs...Conway Twitty...Alabama...Chicago...stuff like that. And no am not religious...just love harmony.

there is nothing like hendrix. you hear it in the music. sure, stevie ray vaughn and other might have played faster, but that doesnt mean its better. the stuff you hear in hendrix music will blow your mind if youre in the right setting and mood with good audio equipment.

Quite honestly Ike it is funny you bring up SRV because for me he does in fact play Little Wing better. Or did I guess?

Jimi is one of those guys who I like and respect immensely, but can only listen to in doses because his voice wears on me.
SRV and Clapton do too, to a lesser degree.
I imagine a lot of people might feel the same way about William Corgan, but not me in this case.
And Sting also did an amazing version of Little Wing, with Hiram Bullock on guitar.
I didn't even have to Google it, that version is burned into my brain.

well if it makes you feel better, jimi HATED his voice. he refused to sing for years in his early days. he just wanted to play his guitar. his friends purseuded him to just go with what he has, and im glad they did. voices are pretty bias between critics.. some today say megan trainor is a singer

Jimi Hendrix is the greatest guitar player ever. Not the greatest singer or songwriter, but guitarist...yes. He made the electric guitar do things no one knew were possible, he could shred the fuck out of the fretboard, and he could also make it sing beautifully.

His influence to many other greats like SRV, EVH, and others is well documented and obvious.

No one will change the instrument like he did.

I understand his time was long ago and I also agree on being burned out by most things 60's, but he defined the damn electric guitar. If you can't hear this, you're not listening.

To be fair, you made that statement before you learned that Wolfie was pre-recorded.

Oh come on, I have heard of Hendrix (and I said so in my initial post). But had not heard his music. And I've made it through a BBC Sessions CD now...Live at Monterrey...and this other thing...

Interesting music - still haven't heard a song I recognize.

I simply do not believe this to be true.

SRV did kill LW. I too am still partial to jimi though. Oddly I actually like the cures cover of purple haze just because it wasn't trying to be jimi.

I think it is insane to believe that Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Little Wing is better than the Jimi Hendrix original.

It is better but it's not surprising considering SRV is the better guitarist.
