I found this topic on the forums at IMDB. I'm doubting it's true, but has anyone heard this? I found very few other places on the net that even mention the topic.


"How this has been masked for so long I don't know, but Steve Guttenberg died 07/08/91 from complications with a blood clot, I remember back then on ET, for the red carpet premiere for Point Break, Lori Petty talking about how sad this was and she was there with Eric La salle pre ER fame, but then it wasn't mentioned again.

Rudolph "Rudy" Guttenberg, Steve's older brother, took over as Steve Guttenberg in late 1992/1993. He just took the name and has been his since then.

I did even read this on Wikipedia a year back because I didn't believe it even though I remember the interview on ET with Lori Petty, but with re-emergence of his name with Dancing with the Stars season 6, the link explaining this had been dropped, something which Wiki has became famous for.

When Steve Guttenberg died in 1991 his career was still strong and he appealed to an audience, out of no where he goes on a near 2 year hiatus, comes back looking older and doesn't have the timing he once had and all his perfomances seemed lackluster, do to Rudy Guttenberg taking over Steve Guttenberg (comparable to Gallagher selling the rights to his brother the gimmick and act back in late 80's).

He is below expectations and I didnt have the highest epxpectations, regardless of the money.

He has really been a very average pitcher in his first 2 games. Has looked like a #3 or 4...

I had Valbuena penciled in at 2nd. Herrera seems smooth at 2nd but hits like a pitcher.

Jimmy, Edwin Jackson "did the job" to use a pro wrestling term. He was a signing to placate cubs fans into thinking they weren't totally asleep at the wheel, but the brilliant part was that they wanted to sign somebody who could come in and lose 15-20 games/season so they could get babe Bryant at #2 and kyle "babe fucking Ruth" schwarber at #4 or whatever.

Edlose Jackson showed up and earned his 13mil by giving the cubs exactly what they wanted: futility masked in "hey at least we tried" (see the tanaka non-signing finalist status) to convince people that the first few years were a little more than paying theo 4mil/year to cut 25-50mil/year of payroll while collecting high draft picks that would be ready/ish when the golden revenue streams were flowing into the empty/ish cups of timeliness.

Considering the countless millions they're gonna make selling you Bryant swag, edwin truly did the job like the professional loser he is. Tally ho!
