Just bad luck the Sox 2015 schedule drew the hottest 19 teams in baseball.

So Ryno himself says a manager made him better, and thus his team better.
That's going to turn into you being a moron somehow.

I am sure. And Jim Frey was not all that great of a manager. he was good for that 1984 squad, though.

How do managers become legendary if they mean nothing to the quality of a team? Is everyone else in the world wrong?

Yeah Jim Leyland and Jack McKeon are fuckin goofs. Made no difference at all. Any monkey could have managed as well.

No organization can succeed without good leadership. Those who claim that managers and coaches dont matter dont know what the hell they are talking about.

This is true to 99% of clear thinking sports fans. Then you have the 1%.

So then why did Jack McKeon get run out of Cincinnati? Why did Leyland quit on Colorado? Did they suddenly forget how to make a team better?

Absolutely a manager USUALLY makes a significant difference... maddon would get more wins with the Sox than Ventura will. You believe Mike Quade or Terry Bevington could manage those Marlins teams with 35 million dollars payroll like Girardi did?

You have no idea if any of that's true. Bevington has a better record than Leyland.

Yeah. He was well over 500 during his run there. Had 3 of 4 winning seasons.

He made the team real good in '99. He made them worse in 2000.

How did he make them good if the manager doesn't make any difference?

That's the point. He didn't. He had a good team. They played great in '99. They were pretty good in 2000.

Since you goofs like the ad populum fallacy so much, I'll try the appeal to authority. Baseball experts agree that a manager makes a minimal difference. A few games at most.

Ok. But a player that's a +3 war might be a pretty good player.
A -3 isn't.
So if a manager makes a difference in a couple three four games and is a war +4 that's significant. And he can make a team better.

Not sure about regular season so much, have heard some say a manager's a potential 10 game diff over 162 games. Guess that depends on bp management and lineups? Seems high.

Managers during playoffs matter a lot. Esp if they are too bullheaded not to pitch to the other team's best hitters in key situations.

But it's not consistent. Mike Scioscia might win an extra three games for his team one year and lose three the next. That's why they all get fired eventually. Managers are talked about way, way too much.

Of course, it's easy to say that Ventura cost his team a game by failing to challenge. That assumes a Sox win if Castellanos had been out. Pretty silly. All I would ask of a manager is that he understand the percentages. Some clearly do that better than others. But in the end there is a lot of luck and randomness.

Everyone laughs at Ned Yost, but he's improved both teams he took over. Or they happened to improve while he was there. I would suggest it's the latter.

In 1989 Don Zimmer did nearly everything "wrong" and it all worked out right.

It's definitely high. Most managers handle their bullpens exactly the same push button way. This guy in the seventh. That guy in the eight. Lefty vs. lefty. Right vs. righty. Closer in the ninth in a tie game at home. Closer in the ninth with a lead on the road. That might not be the smartest way, but it's the way that will get you the least criticism.

As for lineups, every model we have suggests that no matter how you set up a batting order the team will score pretty close to the same amount over the 162 games. Of course that's theoretical. No manager actually has the nerve to do something radical like batting Anthony Rizzo lead off regardless of what the numbers say. Putting Soler second and the pitcher eighth is as wild as it gets.

Rongey's post on FB

Even with the the subpar play of the White Sox so far, and the ridiculous starts by KC and Detroit, it'll probably surprise you to hear the Sox are playing on a pace that's just 1.5 games out of a playoff spot right now. I understand that there's a lot of season to go, but the point is that there's a lot of season to go.

Class tell me what's wrong with this?

I have to draw the line at ZZ. He's way more of a douche than Rongey. That doesn't say much, but ZZ is in his own world of ass-lickery, idiocy, and self love.
