Why doesn't anyone seem to have any kind of status update? No one has talked to him? No idea when he's coming back, he might have to go to XST now? I understand he was close to his sister, but at most you get a week for immediate family. Time to go back to work.

Meanwhille, Russel is now your full time starting 2B Iowa.

Which means short of a Starlin/Addison trade or Bryant move to LF, Baez is clearly the odd man out here.

Hindsight what it is, should have traded him 2 years ago.

Javier Baez has plenty of time to fix himself and contribute to the Cubs. He turned 22 this offseason.

He could be MIA from the big league club until 2017 and still have a long, impactful career. I'm not worried about him one way or another, now that Russell seems to be next up on the infielder depth chart anyway. Fans can now worry about the 25-man, and Theo and Jed can continue improving the 40-man and the organization.

I think the Cubs are doing him right by giving him this much time off for his sister. They may not be doing it for the right reasons, but the ends here are alright. Its obvious to anyone who's paid any amount of attention that if Javier Baez ever becomes a decent MLB-er it will not be with the Cubs. They have moved on.

At this point, I don't think it's that crazy to assume Baez won't be a Cub in 1-2 years.

What other garbage that you want to get rid of are you going to "package" in a trade for an ace?

It cost the A's McKinney, Straily and Russell to get Jeff Samardzija, who is not as good as Cueto is.

It was also a year and a half of control versus a half of a year.

I was told all those players suck by a few people. Baez should easily get a half year of Cueto.

He's not a person if he's not building value for St. Theo.

Cueto is a better pitcher. And the Reds are not going to be keen on trading him to a division rival. Your garbage isn't worth anything, other teams aren't just going to trade for Baez because he was high on a prospect list a year ago.

The Cubs could probably squeeze a mediocre AL pitcher out of Baez and that's about it.

"Losing Pitcher" John Danks.

I'd do it. The 2B bats 9th anyway for the Sox and Baez can field his position, I can handle him never getting a hit since he'll be well contained down there.

I would not rush him back for baseball reasons as well. Of course the death of his sister is not a good thing, but the break might be a good thing for him, as he was being sent down anyways and that alone was probably something he wasnt taking well, before the passing,

Dont care if he needs a month. He comes back when he is ready to work. Which I think will be the best thing for him on a number of levels.
