i had a very vivid, comprehensive dream about seeing this movie last night. the theater was like an abyss of people and seats, and there were actually empty seats somewhere in the middle. there was a balcony and everything. it could have seated over 800 people. even though consciously i've vowed not to clap when i see the "star wars" logo appear on screen (like i know all the fanboys will--they did for "phantom menace"), for some reason i'm applauding like crazy and giddy about the movie starting.

the first odd thing that happens is the crawl. it appears over a starblaze, and is nearly impossible to read. Somewhere in there is something about Luke and the return of an evil prince that has stormed a planet called Dormidia (i have no idea where that came from). The crawl ends with "And the force awakens..." (how redundant).

so the next 5 minutes of the film are really bizarre crossfades of Chewie, a storm trooper, and a foggy marsh resembling Dagobah. I'm starting to feel a bit antsy, like...this is already boring. where's the action?

then things really go off the rails. the next thing i know, the simpsons have made an appearance. krusty the klown is smoking a cigar while talking about canceling the movie. it gets very meta. the jokes are something even seth macfarlane would toss. but then it intercuts with shots of this giant grinning monster that is supposed to be the villain. but it makes no sense at all.

i do recall one battle scene between the aging luke and some droid that looks like a coat rack with a light saber. but i had this sinking feeling throughout the experience.

i didn't wake up from the dream, somehow it morphed into something else that i can't remember. i am going to assume this is a psychic dream, so this is probably how the movie will really, actually play out. you have been warned.
