His show with O'Bradovich was the last joy I derived from my waning interest in the shitty Bears. Now its gone. Huge loss for Chicago sports media.

RIP Doug.

Why do people have to say how they knew him? What does that even matter? Why not just pass along the good stories and commentary about Doug?

My dad & Doug Buffone worked together on The Score. My condolences to his family.

Worked with Doug Buffone on Bears postgame 2007-2011. He was the genuine article. So tough, yet so warm and loving. He IS @670TheScore

Jeff Dickerson ‏@ESPNChiBears 30m30 minutes ago
Produced Doug Buffone in '01/'02. Will always remember his generosity & kindness. Doug made the world a better place. He will be missed.

Shocked and saddened. One less reason to listen to the score. RIP Big Doug.

Terrible news. I turned on and the tone said someone died. Then I open here and oh shit. BTW I think the majority don't like the sarcastic posts.

I think it's because he had such a positive influence on their lives and were so happy to know or work with him.

It makes people feel slightly better with the terrible news.

As other people have mentioned, on a station full of phonies he seemed like a genuinely good guy.

This one hurts. Doug was one of the people there that you felt like you knew. A real guy's guy. Kinda like Van Lier. This sucks! R.I.P. Uncle Fuzzy.

I think in all 3 examples there, if you take out the stuff about their connection... the tweet is just as good. If not better.

True

I think if you work in entertainment/media, the naturally tendency is to always try to legitimize (word?) your professional and or personal relation to someone that has passed. I guess just in case other don't know mabye? Anyways, you're right. Most probably already know those details and the sentiments may seem more sincere without the resume attached. I totally agree with Tannehil though.....Doug is The Score. A sad sad day for sure.

Very sad day indeed.
I see lance Briggs managed to sound a little douchey in his comments.

Sad to hear this. He always kind of reminded me of the kind of guy who would be a favorite uncle who would take you to games. Will definitely miss hearing him. Thoughts and prayers for his family.

Honoring Doug Buffone: "We lost a great man in Doug Buffone. I had the pleasure of being his teammate and friend for 50 years. I will always remember him for his football talent, sense of humor and enduring friendship. He was a very special guy." -- Dick Butkus
