Lots of down years for traditional powers. People talk a big game about wanting to see new teams on the national stage like the Hawks or Warriors but then don't commit.

I was wearing my Blackhawks hat at Mariano's last Saturday (big mistake). A guy walks up to me and says "How about that game last night? You know, they didn't want the 'Hawks to sweep, that's why it was like that." He was referring to the 6-2 game. I responded "They? The refs? You're saying the refs scored six goals?" He just walks away.

I've been watching more of the NBA playoffs this season than I have in any of the previous five years. Love me some Warriors--they play beautiful basketball.

Golden State may be small market but there are no fans that are more loyal than they are. Atlanta is dead weight. They are a front runner that no one believes will win anything. They play a good brand of ball but they really are not that good. The first round has not really been as good as I thought it would be but the second round should be much more competitive.

If ESPN were the main provider of NBA coverage, I think he'd cover this for certain.

NBA is much better than college basketball. College Hoops has actually been dead to me for yrs. The high school to the pros and one and done has rendered the college game useless. The quality of the college product stinks. It's interesting that you say that it is fourth among suburban youths. Suburbanites are hardly considered to be go to guys for cutting edge perspective.

i dont know why people hate the nba so much. people love college ball around here, but they always say the nba is full of thugs, because they cant say geniuses anymore. they also say these thugs in the nba are lazy... i ask them how do the two leagues compare? college boys play like one a week and for half an hour, and anyone that exercises knows playing real games 3 times a week especially back to back games like they do in the nba is BRUTAL. it is a true testament to physical condition. if they ever look like theyre lazy its usually because they are tired from being so fucking active. all these fuckin people that tell me this shit couldnt run a 1/4 mile. fuckin people i swear to god

Yes.

Just among my work place...my friends...way more interest in NHL playoffs than NBA playoffs. The Hawks were a good catalyst for that...but that lead to interest in hockey as a sport, not just the home team. My facebook feed as a lot more people commenting on the NHL playoffs than NBA playoffs as well.

Its a small sample size. There is no way that hockey or even baseball for that matter is more popular than basketball. Domestically or especially globally basketball kills them. Lebron James is more recognizable than either hockey or baseball's most recognizable player.

The Blackhawks have made a huge jump in the last few years, but let's not confuse that with the NHL overtaking the NBA on any larger scale. The NHL can challenge the NBA in select battleground metros -- Philadelphia, Twin Cities, Boston, arguably Chicago these days -- but nationally and internationally, there's no contest.

Baseball is definitely more popular than basketball in Chicago. I didn't think this was even a question. And probably nationally. I think Sunday Night Baseball kills Thursday night NBA.
