Nice job defensively turning that double play and a hell of a job by Rosscup to come in and strike Bruce out.

Let's get some runs!

Rizzo standing tall in there against Chapman. Remember when Anthony was completely lost up there against lefties?

Motte bringing the heat tonight. He was touching 97 on a few pitches there.

How are you not swinging at anything close with 2'strikes in extra innings Soler?

Positives to take out of this win...

Good comeback after the last two losses which were tough to handle.
Lester settled down and finished strong.
The pen was excellent tonight. Five shutout innings.
Rizzo is getting better and better at the plate. Barring injury we're going to look back years from now and realize what a GREAT trade the Cashner/Rizzo deal turned out to be.
Solid defense tonight.

Negatives....
Lester having trouble early and with runners on. I know it's Billy Hamilton, but he's not going anywhere so we're going to see him almost twenty times a year. Better get used to him Jon.
Russell and Soler are struggling at the plate. Thankfully, they're not taking their offensive troubles out on defense.

Early start tomorrow. Let's hope Arrieta keeps it going and we take the series early.

Great fuckin win tonight. I agree with all the stuff Matches already stated. Lester had the breaking ball going tonight but if he doesn't locate that fastball it gets hit really hard. Great to see Grey Pubes get the insurance. I thought it was a grand slam off the bat and jumped off the couch.

Let's hope Arrieta brings his A game tomorrow. Gonna need it.

I have a lot of comments.

Lester was strong the entire game. 1.00 WHIP. He doesn't give up any runs early with practically any base runner besides Hamilton.

Coke still worried me.

Rizzo is amazing. I stand by all my comments about him for the last two years. I'm not sure I'd take any other first baseman, including Jose Abreu. Can't go wrong with either one though.

Soler struggled in right field on a ball hit to the wall out there. He failed to pick it up like three times. If it wasn't Brayan Peña, it would have meant a guy on third instead of second.

Both Russell and Soler should be fine, but I'm more worried about Russell. He is struggling with 93+ mph fastballs on the plate. That isn't good.

I was shocked how overmatched Russell looks at the plate.

That's Wannstedt logic. If we didn't give up two 70 yard runs we held them to 3.1 per carry. You can't ignore what Hamilton did. Lester was not good all game. He immediately put his team behind then when they tied it up he gave up the lead right away again. His ERA still penciled out for 4.5 for the game. He's 0-2 with 2 NDs and a 6 plus ERA for the season yet some scrub reliever worries you and not the 150 million big fish free agent signing .

I'm not ignoring it. I'm analyzing it. As a pitcher, he looked very good. Hamilton got around the bases on ground balls that advanced him, and scored on outs. All three of the Reds runs scored on outs. Hamilton is good on the bases; that is what he does. That same exact performance against 28 other MLB teams and no runs score.

Someone just mentioned sample size in another thread. Sample size is exactly right. Lester's body of work tells me he will be fine. His lack of a structured spring training gives me more reason to believe that. I'm comfortable in my opinions.

Let me worry about what worries me; don't let it bother you so much.

I am shocked as well. Hopefully it is just nerves. Solar looks like he needs a slump buster.

Lester looked dominant in the last three innings and was OK overall. I think Hamilton steals those bases on most pitchers. Giving up the two hits to him was the issue

Rogue, Lester is not an Ace. There's like 5 Aces in baseball. He's in the second tier with like 20 other guys. So don't expect Felix Kershaw or Sale but hell probably do what he's always done and win around 14-15 games.

Its not worse than Soriano. Sorianos deal won't be topped.

NO!

Guys must come up and dominate from day one or they are busts!

Now they're saying they don't when the game will start. They should just call the game. The field is a mess and they don't know when or even if the rain will stop. The only reason they haven't called it is because they're honoring the 1990 Reds today.

So Theo paid him 150 million to be a second tier guy? Wow. He was 16-11 last year with a 2.40 ERA between Bos and Oak last year. Im willing to bet he will never come close to those numbers as a Cub despite facing the pitcher 2x a game before hes removed for throwing 110 pitches by the 6th inning .
