IT TAKES WAY TOO FUCKING LONG, saturday's game was already painful to watch with all of the turnovers, then they are heading over to the scorer's table to check a replay every possession. Have a central office do everything, and give them 60 seconds to do it... if you cant figure it out in 60 seconds then the call on the floor should stand. having 3 refs stare at a tiny monitor for 3 minutes is bad TV.

Yeah, the NBA should adopt an NHL style central location "war room" or whatever. Especially during the playoffs where there are only max 4 games a night.

the nba has the best replay "system"... which is, the refs ON THE COURT, the guys who know all contexts of the game at hand, decide when to look at the replay, how long they look at it, and for whatever reason. I love it. you know with this system they are simply trying to get the call right, no matter what. and context of the game does matter too. especially when flagrant fouls come into play. i think the system is the way it should be, but they do need to make sure the refs see all the same replays we get at home. sometimes we get a better angle and a call is obvious, but the refs dont get that replay and they have to go with the initial call due to lack of proof.

What "context" is needed to tell if a guy's foot was on, over or behind the 3 point line or how many seconds to put back on the clock or which player touched a ball last as it went out of bounds? Which account for about 90% of the official reviews in the final minutes of a game.

What other calls do you regularly see officials reviewing late in games besides those 3?

3 pointer or no?

How many seconds to take off or put back on the clock?

Who touched the ball last before it went out of bounds?

The big scrums and hard fouls that result in technicals and potential flagrants to sort out, yes, still have those determined by the on-court refs. Tho at this point, doesn't the league adjust the level of fouls after the games anyhow, when it comes to flagrants and technicals?

90% of the calls could be handled by a central office with a quicker turn-around to the on-court officials than the officials themselves can do. By the time the officials stop the game and make their way to the scorer's table, odds are there's a decision waiting for them and they can get it, turn around and continue the game. Instead of having to wipe the sweat out of their eyes and squint at a small screen and keep rewinding the play to determine whether some player's nike was on the 3 point line.

offensive fouls, clear path fouls, goal tending....

i just dont think a group of refs in a room would be any different than the guys on the court. this isnt football where they have to walk 50 yards to the replay booth. its right there, like 50ft away.

it takes a bit of time just to get the replays set and shown anyway. and no matter what they all need to talk to eachother first, get the initial call, then look at the replay and debate it. if you had to wait for a phone call from some office you would have everyone just standing around looking at themselves... and even worse, when the call comes in and the refs on the court dont agree with it, now you have disgruntled refs and that can be detrimental to the nba game. again, refereeing in the NBA is not like any other sport. there IS a ton of grey area, tons of calls that can go either way and it really is up to the refs to decide who is playing better basketball and give them the benefit of the doubt when they do.
