Tough loss but Bryant on base 5 times, Russell 2 hits plus a HR, Rizzo goes deep, so going to accentuate the positive.

Fucking St. Louis is just on a major roll.

And yea, fuck Travis Wood and launch E Jax so they can get another arm in the pen.

And Coghlan is a bench guy. No way he is a starter next year.

4-5 war player for the next 10-15 years.... just ask around! his 70hit stat or something was in vlad guerrero territory, just ask ted williams!

what the hell is a 70hit stat anyways? that stat notwithstanding, vlad's rookie year was .302/11/40 in 90 games, good for a 1.7WAR in an era where offense was crazy good. oscar taveras was .239/3/22 in 80 games, good for -1.4 WAR. being the board's resident vlad guy i prolly should be flattered that when people wanna say their new hitting crush is good they'll reach for my guy, but you gotta come correct if you're gonna clam vladlike status.

i think IMU has already been in contact with merriam-webster about updating the definition of "cub" [verb]. if they give him any flack INQUISITOR will show up outside with "a couple'a hard pipe-hittin [people]" to go to work on them with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.

Low class. Lets see your prospects who are alive do something before you can stomp on the dead. Our star prospect is dead, you star prospect has yet to homer, the other is striking out at %45 in AAA. Fuck you Don. Champ. Win something, then i'll consider you a "champ". Your commebt was fucking no class, so think about that one before you start firing like a dumbass, Champ.

Exhausting game to watch. The AL East and it's 4 hour games may have officially landed in Chicago.

Our bullpen needs an upgrade. I know bullpens are fickle and the next guy you bring in could be just as bad, but as currently set up, this pen is going to cost us quite a few games. Offensively I think we'll be fine and the Cub will slug their way to a lot of victories, but blowing leads late can take its toll.

CPGUY brought it up in an earlier post, Coghlan is not a starting caliber MLB outfielder. He's a fourth OF at best, though his defense can really be a liability out there. It's nice to have a left handed pinch hitter off the bench, unfortunately for Chris, outside of a stretch last year, the guy has been in two to three year slump. I know injuries have held him back, but even this year, he's killed Mike Leake of the Reds but not much success against everybody else.

A split in this series would be great while a sweep for St. Louis could be demoralizing for a young team especially if you lose big leads. Let's get out there today and tie this thing up.

Dude IMU is a technical bastard; he's gonna say something like I NEVER SAID THE ASTROS WILL HAVE A BETTER RECORD THAN THE CARDINALS ONLY THST THEY HAVE BEEN THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL SO FAR!!!!

guar-on-teed.

The Astros are good. I have no idea who will finish with a better record. A lot happens between now and early October. The Cardinals don't look too special in the two games and some innings I've seen of them so far.

This actualy says a lot. Sweeping, assholish generalizations based on small samples and selective anecdotal observations, check. Keep them to something as trivial as baseball... you'll be alright. Unfortunately, I suspect that you don't... and wonder why random folks might want to knock you the fuck out from time to time.

Game is on Wood . Your starter cannot be spotted a 5 run fucking lead then give 4 right back. 9 runs has got to win a game. Just bad.

Totally. The 5 runs made me less confident

Strop was rough. Wood was bad, but nice that he kept them at 4 for a while at least

This kind of logic is a way worse look for Cubs fans than people who refer to the team as the "Cubbies" FWIW.

Tonight decides whether we split. Hendrick needs to go 7.

I read the Cardinals have had the 2nd worst strength of schedule or something to kick off the season. Good teams take advantage and win. The Cubs go and lose 2 out of 3.

Heyward officially sucks. Defense, baserunning, blah blah blah. The cat has a .277 OBP. Some team (hopefully the Cards) is going to overpay for that joker.

Agreed, send him and his Duck Dynasty beard back to AAA. Next man up for the 5th spot in the rotation.

Tonights game will set a tone for the season. Will a young team bounce back and send a message to SL or turn tail and continue to be the Cardinals bitch.

These games are where Maddon earns the title of the best manager in baseball or just another manager burnout.

Though it's frustrating to see the Cards trade for an automatic out in Heyward in exchange for a 25-year-old pitcher with a 2.17 ERA and shrug it off.

Maybe it hurts 3 years later but right now...no effect. :x

Maybe the Cards will overpay for him, but at least they have a 1-year test run to see if he has any newly discovered yips.

I disagree. His bapip is real low and just from the eye test he's hit a ton of line drives right at people. He's a starting caliber of. Maybe not on a championship team, but he's not just a bench player

I'm fine with the Yankees or Red Sox overpaying for him and recieving the comp pick. His speed and defense will detoriorate rapidly after 31-32... so the idea of him hobbling around out there in year 5,6 of a $20MM contract is a little scary. Guys like Holliday's games (Hit 'Em Hard, to All Fields) don't fall off too much, even after the HGH wears off. Dude will probably still be hitting doubles at 40

Red Sox?!?! Where's he going to play? :P

Yankees seem like a perfect fit with the short porch to assist in HR and Beltran pretty much being cooked.

I could also see the Angels with Colhoun sliding to left or the Phillies if they're looking to add some juice to the rebuild.
