CPGUY brought it up in an earlier post, Coghlan is not a starting caliber MLB outfielder. He's a fourth OF at best, though his defense can really be a liability out there. It's nice to have a left handed pinch hitter off the bench, unfortunately for Chris, outside of a stretch last year, the guy has been in two to three year slump. I know injuries have held him back, but even this year, he's killed Mike Leake of the Reds but not much success against everybody else.

I disagree. His bapip is real low and just from the eye test he's hit a ton of line drives right at people. He's a starting caliber of. Maybe not on a championship team, but he's not just a bench player

Yes his babip is low and I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't view him as a starting OF. There's been some line drives but there have also been some clueless appearances at the plate. I know there are injuries to others dictating the OF lineup right now, but with his defense, I need some big offensive numbers to justify him playing everyday. In a perfect world, Baez figures things out and Bryant moves to LF though I know the odds are against that.

The 2014 White Sox hung around for quite a while, but they lost a lot of games they shouldn't have because bad bullpen ('15 Cubs) and bad starting pitcher ('15 Cubs).

Also, Kris Bryant has been nicht sehr gut as of recent.

That one hurt last night. More than an early May game ever should. It's fun to care about the Cubs again, but I almost forgot how gutwrenching they can be.

Carpenter, Holliday and Reynolds have good numbers against Hendricks

Reynolds had his best game in 5 years last night.

Totally. The 5 runs made me less confident

Strop was rough. Wood was bad, but nice that he kept them at 4 for a while at least

How about after the Cards batted in the 1st? Did you still feel solid?

Nothing good comes out of last night's game. Cubs are already 5 1/2 back. Cards are the team you are trying to beat and you cannot give up a 5-0 lead after one inning.

Big game today and a split would be a huge victory at this point

Im not sure if I was clear, but Im saiyng that even when it was 5-0 I had ZERO confidence. Too many STL comebacks over the years

Went 3-4 with two HR in a game last July.

Conversely if the Cards put 5 up in the first Id say the game was over. Sucks being a Cubs fan :|

The loss hurts, and Cardinals are in the driver's seat for the division. But we knew that a week ago, and in March. So really, last night changes absolutely nothing.

What does frustrate me is the starting pitching and the bullpen. It needs to be better. How is James Russell not here yet? Hopefully Grimm gets healthy quickly as well.

And Strop should be fine, but has had two bad outings in a row.

Check out the wheels on Rizzo! Scoring runs because of his threat to steal bases.

Unbelievable.

Just when you think we've turned a corner. I know there still a long way to go, but DAMN! You can't keep immediately giving leads back and expect to contend.

Shows you that their pitching is still short. Good pitchers shut teams down the inning after and keep the momentum .

I don't want to rile you guys but what happened to the pitching? I thought besides Lester they had been ok especially the bullpen?

Bullpen has been overused. Starters have been....OK I guess.

I'm not riled. I'm sticking with my 2018 prediction.
