Always liked these guys, but now im just impressed.

our shower stall in one of our cabins had a leaky positemp valve. Probably due to the winter but who knows, it seems these positemp valves dont last forever.

so i went to moens website, filled out a simple contact us form and it even allowed me to upload a snapshot i took from home depot's website so it was clear what part i needed. $35 part.

less than one hour later I got a order confirmation for a new positemp valve shipped to my door for $0.00

fantastic. this is what makes me choose one brand over another. Moen is in my A-list!

Grohe America is in Roselle IL and they will send you parts like you needed for free overnight...no hassle.

And just so you know, items bought at Home Depot, many times are made just for Home Depot and thus the stop making them at some point and you cant find parts and then Moen or Grohe wont support that item.

That keeps happening to me with other things bought at HD. My pathway lights get broken after a few years, and then they aren't available anymore. So you need to replace the whole set.

Welcome to Home Depot.

Would you like to buy this $4.99 sponge as well, or this bag of rags for $10.99?

i didnt buy this from home depot. i dont even remember when we bought it. moen didnt care, they just saw a picture and part number, asked if we are the original owners of the house, and immediately sent out a new part.

these positemp valves are extremely common in moens line of products. theyre used in almost everything moen has.

Home Depot sucks. I had to replace my pressure tank this weekend. Went to home depot cause it was right there ya know? They don't have pressure tanks. Nor do they have the Gauge for the pressure. Not the Brady Gauge I need. The jerk actually told me to use c pvc for the job.
Across the street is Menard. There's my 20 gallon pressure tank. Oh, right next to it is the Gauge I need. And the pvc fitting. In fact they even had a hand written chart there explaining the size of the female adapter and the size tank required (though I already knew what I wanted) and an explanation of how to set the pressure in the tank. Exceptional.

Oh yeah you'd use a tire pressure Gauge. I needed the Brady Gauge to test boiler pressures. Fits a standard drain bib.
I needed a new 1/4 inch pressure Gauge for the pressure switch for the well. Separate projects.

oh... yeah i just have a pressure tank for a well pump. it cycles too much, i dont think the diaphram is expanding enough, but then again its 20 years old and i dont want to just pump air in there and guess.

the prototypes are still selling, and they were never intended to.

i havent spent the cash to have the tooling done for the extruded aluminum yet. once that happens its off to the races on the new model- the real model

Ike if the bladder is shot you'll get water out of the Shrader when you depress it.

i dont think its shot, i just think it needs more air pressure. it builds up good pressure and eases down in about 10 second cycles. it shouldnt be that short.

How many gallon tank? Almost all short cycling is a bad bladder, or pressure switch... rarely lost pressure. If the pressure is lost you need a new Shrader in there. Easy enough if you've got a Shrader puller. I got mine for 3 bucks at Johnstone. It's on my key chain. I change a couple a week for one reason or another.

i just sold one to a service guy who requested to have one made with a 6ft cord, because he carrys around an extension cord with for his power tools and just wanted a durable light off that.

never heard back from him, then again i rarely do. no returns ever, but no repeat buys either  like i said, these are prototypes so i dont really care if they sell or not. too much work to build them, it comes to like $10/hr with the time it takes. but the people who do comment on them say 'this thing is a beast, but not big like other lights'

you have to take into account my family. they hack-install everything and its always fucked from the start. i have zero confidence they set the pressure right 20 years ago. i just came out here a couple years ago, and i bumped the top end pressure a bit but never put a guage on it and actually set it right. i just need to do it and i never think about it until im in the shower.

you have to turn off the water and let the water pressure out first right? or it will rupture the bladder immediately wont it? i know what a shrader puller is, i used to change tires for a living

How much you asking for them? I still carry around a old man trouble light. The one with the 60 watt bulb in the metal cage? The kids laugh at me but the old guys know what's up.

Ike the pressure in the tank should be set 2 psi below the low end rating of the pressure switch. So it's most likely a 30 50 or a 20 40 switch. Should be printed on the switch or switch cover. Bet it waterlogged. Course it could also be a bad switch replaced one last year on my well too.

[the regular old man drop lights] those are what i am trying to defeat. those drop lights are still king because of two reasons- they are cheap to begin with and they can be fixed when the bulb breaks.

i cant do the cheap route, not as a startup company... but i can make the parts serviceable. ive been selling the prototypes for $139, and i do advertise them as serviceable but i have not had a single person ask me for a part yet, so i guess thats a good sign. i use high quality parts throughout, everything... the power supply, the cord, the inner core of the light... its all overbuilt.

the new model im determined to hit the $99 shipped price point. i can sell the prototypes for that but its not worth my time to make $40 a light after shipping. if i could pay someone to make them and i just sell them, sure $40 would be awesome... but the time i put in assembly, no way. i would sell you one for $99 though. the parts alone cost $50... buying in bulk saves a little, but i would have to buy in lots of hundreds to really knock down the cost.

the new model will be made from a large chunk of extruded aluminum. dramatically fewer and less complicated parts, plus it will seem a little more 'factory'. these prototypes never were supposed to be a finished product, but i honestly had a product innovator from Dorcy ask me what factory made mine... i had to laugh. he was going to present them to sears for the diehard line, but after he played with it he said there is no way they would go for it, it was too high quality. he said dorcy/diehard lights are all shit and thats what they want to sell. didnt phase me though, i always had my sights on the snapon or matco name if anyone was going to license these.

still trying to decide how to do the power switch for the new model. i really want to do a vibration switch, so you just bump the light and it turns on for say an hour at a time, and every time its bumped it resets for another hour. thats easy to do electrically speaking, but im scared of the reliability.

I'd pay extra for a 20 or 40 foot cord and a usable receptacle in the handle. That's always awesome.

i think the switch is fine... its a nice square d.

are you saying the pressure in the tank bladder doesnt have much effect? it just seems like the bladder needs a little more air in it... its not like the pump doesnt build up pressure, it just seems like it cycles too much

of course it depends on what youre running at any given moment, but say like when im taking a shower.... the pressure drops slowly and the pump kicks on, then it ramps up for about 5-10 seconds.... then the pressure slowly drops for about 20 seconds and it repeats.

i think its working proper overall, but just needs a little adjustment

im still debating on making a model that has an outlet near the handle. i know the old man troublelights have the outlet in the handle, but those eventually wear out and become useless. mine would have to have a replaceable outlet, but then youre talking a pretty huge handle, or box near the handle

its really geared for automotive work. those guys use air guns, and rarely need an extension cord. and using the 30ft cord for low voltage only means there is a dramatic reduction in hazard risk... crush or cut the cord and nothing happens, the power supply just shuts off power.

I dunno man. Just gotta check the bladder pressure and maybe check the 1/4 inch Gauge to see if it's accurate. I change mine out for like 4 bucks. If you get water out of the Shrader it's a bad tank. 3 minutes of troubleshooting and you'll have it.
