I've seen more fights in Wrigley and Sox Park than I have at any bar I've gone to regularly. Do you think McCarthy would close them?

Been to Wrigleyville lately on a non game night , weekend? pretty much a knock down brawl every weekend, if I could bet on a shooting soon in a club I would...once again...I used the word CLUB, because thats what Wrigleyville is now...Clubs...few Bars remain.

This was going to be my post but I got busy. I am sure no district cop heads will not be walking arounking for the insurance payoff against closure.

One night I am at the old Ubberstein and the Police Captain or Sarge who runs Wrigleyville comes in, dressed in full street clothes with 2 buddies. he starts giving the owner some shit like they are best friends. he pushes his buddy to order anything he wants "dont worry about it", they each have 2 or 3 beers, some shots, etc...and then the guy takes some of the mugs on the wall home...right after he leaves the owner says 'what a fucking asshole that guy is".....and no he didnt pay.

Cops first name was Gary, but I forget his last name. He walked a beat writing tickets up Clark and Sheffield from Belmont to Addison.

Everyone paid him cash to avoid patrons getting ticketed. Tunney paid him too. He would bring home a G a week in cash.

I would have to wait on Friday nights twice a month until he got his cash from the manager at the Wild Hare. That SOB would take his $125 not to ticket, and then I would get mine.

Cops have had this power in places like this for a long time.

And no it's not a good thing.

a former little league teammate is now the cop in charge of the downtown liquor beat. I have another friend who just opened a place. We laughed over the description of the initial call precinct office to talk to "seargent"

Dont know exactly how they do it now, but it used to be 3 calls for police actions to a bar put its license in suspension and up for review by the liq commsioner of the city of chicago, thus many of the calls didnt get 'booked' and never happened.
