Yeah, relievers numbers can mislead sometimes. He was bad for Cubs in 04 and 05. Tons of blown saves and they always came in huge games they needed.

Edit: 9 fucking blown saves in 04. They won 89.

I wasnt really applying the numbers in that way. Just that they were in contention and within a few games of the wild card.

He blew saves, but had 15 losses in the same period Marmol had 12. Blown saves suck, but the end result is a win or a loss. And then you have to look at save opportunities between the two...one run vs three run, etc.

Remember the game Marmol blew in the playoffs against the Diamondbacks?

In 2008, Marmol only gave up 40 hits. Wow. Outstanding! 10 were home runs... "oh shit."

Even when he was good, he was bad. And we should have realized that his love for the walk and home run would be his downfall. I think he was lucky more than good.
