It's been long since B&B were right about anything, and considering what has been written about the Deflategate report since yesterday in implicating Brady, it's clear they are wrong again on this issue. While deflating balls may seem trivial to B&B, it's still against the rules what Brady did, no matter how much they don't like the regulation. For the game to be fair, the equipment used by both teams has to be the same. Brady had the balls tampered with to give him and his team an advantage and then later lied about knowing about it. He and his whole team deserve every punishment coming to them.

The argument that deflated balls don't matter is untenable. By taking that line, B&B have put themselves on a slippery slope that would only lead to other infractions if certain rules were deemed by a player or team to be trivial. It all boils down to cheating and Brady got caught. His status as a leading league figure and potential hall-of-famer doesn't matter in the least, nor does the business aspect of football matter either, as B&B were trying to argue.

What would the result of all this be if the AFC Championship game against the Colts had been closer, where the Patriots won by only a few points? B&B would have to take the issue seriously then, because the Pats Superbowl victory would have to be viewed as illegitimate.

Any time a rich whiteman is accused of wrongdoing, you can count on Dan to lecture you about how you don't understand the situation, you're blowing it way out of proportion, and you should just shut up.

While I understand the fact it is illegal, seems many do it and nobody ever said anything...and then #12 admits he likes footballs overinflated (stay on topic)...how that helps I have no idea, but if there is a rule, then he is cheating too? correct?

It amazes me how B&B have made a career from being wrong and hypocritical about most everything. They can't utter anything without it being fodder for "Who ya Crappin", if people were ever allowed to crap them on the air. It's especially surprising with Dan, the social justice crusader, who is ever so quick to jump on anyone for inequality and injustice. Yet, he and Boers give rich Brady a pass here.

I agree with Berns on this.

Is there a range or or just has to be no less than x psi? I don't know if there is a limit to how much it can be inflated.

Pats keep cheating and getting caught. Bad cheaters. I wonder how much it has effected the out come of games. He's been the benefitted from the tuck rule which is stupid, the spy gate thing, and now deflated balls. Fuck them.

Joe Montana was the best!!

You mean if Brady had overinflated rather than underinflated the balls? No difference. For there to be fair competition, there has to be a standard for ball inflation and for all equipment. The standard is set by the league, which the Patriots are part of. If Brady didn't like the standard, then he and his coach should have lobbied to get the regulation changed, as they did for using their own balls for games. But they probably knew such lobbying, in this case, wouldn't have succeeded. To them, it's only cheating if you get caught, and they didn't expect to get caught.

Brady didn't cooperate with the NFL investigation. Should Danny be outraged by that? YOU HAVE A DUTY TO YOUR EMPLOYER TO COOPERATE IN AN INVESTIGATION OF WORKPLACE MISBEHAVIOR!!!!

And you fit the mold of posters who hate the show and yet continue to listen. They exist because they get ratings. You are the reason they exist. Your anger and disbelief drives their ratings higher.

As for SH not thinking for himself, I strongly disagree. The guy, right or wrong, puts a lot of opinions out there for consumption.

I think the Louis CK rationale is sufficient. It's a stupid game and it doesn't fucking matter.

Dave, are the french fries at Murphy's on Green St sill as good as I remember them? I think someone else on this board confirmed that they are (Dr Ken?). God I wish I had money in college. I was usually relegated to bumming a few fries off my friends. I was flat broke.

But existing to be what? Liars and Hypocrites? They have to live with themselves that way. Danny's kid will grow up hearing that his father is a degenerate. Even now Dan gets things thrown at him at Black Hawk games. Howard Stern is in the same category, rich but without character. There is a price for what they do.

I haven't actually lived in Champaign in a while, but I can attest to the fact that they were still awesome as of July 2010!

Under Dan's rationale, every fifth-round draft pick analysis, meaningless OTA, and journey to the center of Matt Bowen's ass could be met with "how can we talk about these trivial things when there's domestic abuse and brain damage going on?" They won't be, though. BEARSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Ruby, what you just described could be said about every politician, much of the popular press, and plenty of folks in the business world. They exist to make money. They do so by being good at their jobs. They aren't preachers, school teachers, or doctors. They are scrubs on the radio that provide entertainment. Their responsibility is to get ratings. They appear to be doing that, so here they are for your ongoing consumption. You are swallowing their theories, ingesting their bs, spreading their bile, sustaining their livelihood, and hanging on their every word. Congrats.

It's a good day at the office, Cubs and Sox to consume.

Other than having to ingest their bs (in ever smaller quantities), no. There are days where my curiosity carries to the segment beyond transition. Other days I make a point to avoid them. I read more and more here that reinforces my stance. Their theories are ever increasingly weak and thei bile isn't worth sharing. Boers making $500K+ being a parrot is beyond me. Only in America.

Actually I rarely listen to B&B anymore. I cant stand Berns, but we happen to agree on this. Deflate gate is waaaay overblown. It just doesn't bother me that much.

Longer time radio, sports radio, and day one listener. Chet Coppock's admonishment to McNeil would have been 100% prophetic had Bernstein been within 500 miles of 670 The Score.

Old habits die hard but this habit, sadly, is not immortal.

Bernstein said it's not a big deal cuz he was around the bears when they doctored up footballs.

Dan, you're allowed to "Doctor them up". The NFL permits that. Meaning rubbing them down. Getting the wax off. So you weren't witnessing the Bears doing something illegal.

The refs look at them before the game, so if they did anything real bad like cutting off laces, it wouldn't be permitted.

What's illegal is deflating it below 12.5. Dumb ass.

For someone who prides himself in being a writer, Dan's use of the word "superficial" in his article is a misnomer. What's superficial about a star quarterback in an AFC Championship game willfully breaking a league regulation concerning equipment and doing it by way of bribes?

Furthermore, Dan argues that because the NFL is a flawed league, the cheating scandal doesn't matter. But how is the league any less flawed by not enforcing its own rules, where one team gains an unfair advantage over another? What he is saying is deflective and defective reasoning. While he is probably right about the NFL being flawed, it doesn't in any way lessen the gravity of the crime. And comparing any other of the NFL's problems to this scandal is comparing apples to oranges. At no time in a professional competition, let alone in the game before the Superbowl, should cheating ever be acceptable, and that's what this was.

Let "Hockey Dad" learn that the opposing goal tender had pads or stick not in regulation or that his son is getting peppered by opponents with non-regulation sticks.

The same guy who villified JRW kids and their supporters, and lifted his hind leg on their being accused of cheating and caught.

But the person who once called his partner (before he was his partner) "arbitrary" has become the personification of that. Punish the kids but excuse the adults? I suppose its tougher to be rich, white and successful than the alternative.

Let me add that I don't hate Brady. He's been a good quarterback and good for the game. But his performance last night raised more questions than answered.

All he had to do from the beginning was just say that he ordered the balls deflated because it was his personal preference, not because he or his team was seeking any advantage in holding on to the ball. Then no one would have made anything of it, and the NFL would have been lenient in giving punishment. For fear of accepting any negative backlash against him, Brady went the route of not being cooperative and probably lied about not knowing about it. This only made things worse. Now he is past the point of return that he cannot admit anything. Maybe in baseball you might call what he did creative, which has always had sort of a dodgy reputation going back to the Black Socks, but it's different in football. Probably for the first time in his life Brady faces Justice.
