Not really anything new but threadworthy as this progresses.

From Feder this morning...

"Three Chicago stations are believed to be in the running to acquire radio rights for White Sox baseball, starting in 2016.

Sources said White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has met with bosses of all three 50,000-watt AM stations as he nears a decision on a new multiyear broadcast deal for the team.

CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR AM 670, radio home of the White Sox since 2006, is making a strong bid for renewal, while Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720 and Cumulus Media news/talk WLS AM 890 also are said to be vying for the rights.

WGN last year severed its historic association with the Cubs after 90 seasons. CBS Radio signed the team to a seven-year deal now in effect on Newsradio WBBM AM 780. If The Score loses the White Sox, CBS could move the Cubs to The Score next year, according to terms of the agreement.

Former White Sox pitcher Ed Farmer and former White Sox outfielder Darrin Jackson are in their seventh season together in the broadcast booth for The Score."

 Like I said... nothing really new.

Seriously though, why no WMVP AM1000 in the hunt? Kind of surprised at that.

Is there something not publicly known behind that? Bad blood, personalities, ESPN Corporate stuff, sour grapes?

Maybe it's their shitty directional signal.

890 wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Cumulus is desperate to fix that station.

FWIW - About a few weeks ago, Steve Cochran was showing a lot more interest talking Sox in the mornings at WGN.

For a while, it was an all out bash Cubs and lovefest for the Sox. Recently, not so much Sox talk. In fact, nothing.

Usually, he's a pretty good indicator of what WGN does or doesn't do because he is pals with Jimmy de Castro.

Stay tuned...

The White Sox on WGN and the Cubs on Not WGN would suck so much. Happy dopey Chicago talk will clash with Ed Farmer's uninterested grumbling.

I doubt the Sox are going to stick around on WSCR where the afternoon show that leads into them is property of Tom Ricketts himself. Nobody wants to be on 890.

We've come such a long way since the days of WSOX, huh? I can't believe I liked it better that way. At least when the Score's editorial stance was relentlessly pro-Sox (remember the edict to refer to the White Sox as The First-Place White Sox in every positioner by, like, early May?), it was tolerable because the Cubs and the Trib had their thing, so whatever, fair play. Also, it was so ham-handed (again, early May's First-Place White Sox) that you just sort of felt bad about them. And for all the fretting about the Trib pushing the Cubs too hard, the marriage of the Cubs and CBS feels like being run over by a big blue tank.

I liked it because good or bad they just talked about the Sox. If the Sox were bad they would talk about why, not the current "we dont know what the Sox are yet...WOW KRIS BRYANT JUST SOLVED AIDS <75 minute Theo rimjob>." Now there's no Sox talk to be found anywhere. WSCR used to be our island until Ricketts bought that too. It's very annoying.

Dan Bernstein certainly did.

I remember the days where the Score didn't push for carrying any team and proclaimed it as a sign of their independence.

I wish it were back like that. No teams at all. For better talk as well as no preemption.

Nah, I don't mind play-by-play in the evenings. To eschew it altogether is a waste of a clear channel, the only thing AM still has going for it these days. My ideal:

Cubs: 720, where they've pretty much always been
White Sox: 670, where they've pretty much always been
Bears: don't really care
Bulls: 1000
Blackhawks: 720
Notre Dame: 950 (Catholic talk station)
Illinois: a carrier current

It is different for me CH. Being out of town I get national crap during games not play by play.

Have you tried picking up 670 over the air at night? Might be dicey for you because of western PA's challenging terrain, but I picked up 670 and 720 clear at night from 330 miles away ATCF, and you're only about 400.

Once in a while I get it driving home late at night but not reliable enough to plan on it. That is so funny though. It brings back memories years ago up at the north Wisconsin getaway stepping away from the camp fire listening to the Hawks playoffs on the car radio.

Gotta have PBP on the radio somewhere. Listening online just doesn't cut it.

Reinsdorf has spoken about AM-1000's poor quality signal in the past. I believe he said it was a station that couldn't be heard in Aurora.
Why would WGN be so happy to get out from under the Cubs only to get in bed with the Sox? It doesn't make sense.
Baseball rights seem to be bad business for radio stations these days.
Cochran trashes the Cubs, but who cares? This guy gets Q and Hampton on as regular guests and has no idea what to talk to them about. You can hear him being passed pieces of paper with the questions on them.
WIND is low power. I guess 890 would be in the mix but I can definitely see the Score renewing them.

Because WGN will no longer get the co-ownership sweetheart deals they had in the past.

Actually, then it will be cubs game and a much easier sponsorship, with Mark grote, who will be more than smart enough to say 'Keep Leary away" dont need or want any of those crossover leary/rongey shows..

Quick history for those who dont know...

When WMVP had such right and WSCR was bidding for them....ESPN didnt even make an offer, while WSCR felt they were bidding against someone, they actually were bidding against themselves, a very nice business move by Jerry....dont think ZIm didnt file that one away, so the renewal was for less...and now, Jerry sees it coming...

I agree WIND should go after them and bring North into the fold...WGN...? I think it might be a really bad call, like disasterous bad...actually lose more than they gain, but when you are the guy at the top and you lost the Cubs, you need to justify your big salary by doing something like go after the other baseball team!

Would Rongey follow them wherever they go? Or would he just stay at the SCORE and be a full time update guy.

I guess it depends if the new radio station wants him or if they have somebody else in mind.

I'm guessing Reinsdorf has no relationship with Ranger. So he wouldn't push for keeping Ranger.

If my lead-in to White Sox baseball in a year is Savage Nation I'm not going to be happy.

I would guess Ranger would stay at SCR and be Mr Scoreboard Update.

I said he should have applied for the Cubs gig when they moved to CBS knowing that the Sox could move and he could lose his gig. I'm sure Mitch and Zim would have let him do the Cubs had he asked.

Ranger has told this board that he wants to be an MLB play by play guy. So if the new station doesn't want him, I'll bet he looks to hook on with another MLB team in another market.
