I think it's pretty clear that the falling man is a metaphor. In a lot of ways, my dad was Don Draper. Before this show I never thought much about the way my father must have seen the world. All of a sudden people were questioning these men who had never been questioned before. The whole world as they knew it was sliding out from underneath them. Peggy (and to a lesser degree the black secretaries) is the other side of that story. But the interesting thing is that Draper is falling much faster than they are rising.

I've never watched this and don't know if they deserve whatever is happening. Irl the people from that time are some of the toughest and amazing people, yet had the biggest hearts, sense of community, and sense of right and wrong.

I don't think the penultimate episode should have you hoping the Don scenes are over to get to Pete and Birdie.

This finale better be perfect.

That's a Bad Take.

You should host with Shep and Herb.

I get that Don is alone and has lost everything, but this just doesn't feel like it's only one episode away from the series finale.

The D.B. Cooper theory looks like a real possibility.

So, I need to rewatch I guess but I assume that the car is the last thing that Don sheds with ties to his life as Don Draper and next week he sheds the name Don Draper. The End.

I don't know what I was expecting for a final season but it's been a bit of a slog at times here at the end.

This is kind of interesting. I was a little curious as to the choice of the Buddy Holly song for the end credits. They have almost always, to my memory, used a song that was popular during the time of the episode.

Based on the TV show that was on in Don's room, the date was October 1, 1970. So, I thought using Buddy Holly's song from the late '50s was an odd choice.

So, even though most of this I think is stretching things, #6 is interesting to me and there has been a lot of plane references this half-season -

Airplanes have played a prominant role in this show since day 1.

He's not going to be D.B. Cooper and he's not going to jump out a window.

So I take it this show continues to suck. Glad I put off watching this final half season till after the finale. Hitting delete on all the episodes is becoming a more and more attractive alternative as time goes on and I continue to read poor reviews.

Buddy Holly died in a plane crash. There just have been way too many Airplane references throughout this show for it not to play a role in the finale episode.

No, I think this was one of the best episodes they've ever done. That Oklahoma town was downright Lynchian. I couldn't stop wanting him to get out of that place.

It's been pretty good, actually. Pretty typical Mad Men season - pretty slow start, some annoying detours, but some really strong moments. The Betty stuff from last night was the best stuff she's ever had and really paid off her series long character arc.

Great description - very surreal, and you just wanted to know what kind of creepy fate may hit Don in the face...so to speak.

Have a feeling that the finale is going be very ambiguous when it comes to Don, but I smell Weiner about to do his best David Chase impression, and me not liking it very much.

I would agree that the Betty stuff was good - IF it DID come from absolutely out of nowhere and waaaaaaaaay too late in the season. By dropping that little bombshell this late seems like a cowardly plot device that could take Don in only one direction if he has any decency left.

She was complaining of neck pain, her mom died of cancer, and she smoked like a chimney. It wasn't really out of nowhere.

She complained of neck pain briefly the last episode, and EVERYONE smoked like a chimney. Yeah, the line is "well, SOMEONE had to get lung cancer seeing how much smoking was going on...", but dropping the dime NOW seems like a cop out. They could have done this earlier in the last few episodes to maybe set the stage for Don, instead of ramrodding it in at the last minute to (seemingly) force an outcome instead of letting the Don story play out. Of course, having said that, maybe Don gets the news and still does his own thing...who knows?

Having said that...I just cant see Don Draper packing what looks like a bomb in his briefcase and demanding $200K in a note handed to an airline stewardess. Seems far fetched.

Don walks into the ocean as Don Draper and exits as Dick Whitman. End scene.

I don't imagine an ocean scene will happen but I have always thought the end of the series would be Don coming to terms with his old identity (we did sort of get this when he told the vets the story about his CO) and then starting his life again as Dick Whitman.

I wonder if the last episode will be all Don with none of the other characters? I am hoping that we see Don back in New York with Peggy, Betty and his kids again, but Texas or Cali is more likely. I also hope that Don doesnt die and that he ends up doing something good with his life.
Then again...maybe he joins the military?

One scene from Sundays episode has been stuck in my brain...& that is the Coca Cola machine scene when the Motel owner asks Don to repair the machine in exchange for a free night, & the camera fixates on Don staring at the machine.

Coca Cola has been a part of numerous Mad Men episodes.

Coca Cola is one of Jim Hobarts McCann Erickson accounts. For whatever it is worth, McCann Erickson was actually the real advertising agency for Coca Cola in the early 1970's.

Remember way back to season 1 when Jim Hobart of McCann-Erickson met Betty at an event with Don & he suggested she would be great in a Coca Cola photo shoot, which she did.

During last Sundays episode, when Hobart shot down Don & the Sterling Cooper teams pitch to establish a California office, Hobart whispered "Coca Cola" while nodding to Don.

Don is left sitting at the bus stop in last weeks episode during the fall of 1970...maybe Don hops on a Bus to NYC, & gets back in the advertising game & creates one of the most famous advertising campaigns ever...which happened to be created in late 1970...
"Hilltop" by Coca Cola, AKA as "Id like to teach the world to sing", or, "Its the real thing".
Don casts Betty in the ad before she passes away, & he quits drinking & womanizing & re-connects with his kids.
Don & his kids live happily ever after.
