I believe Hahn said Noesi was available for relief duty in yesterday's game. The wind is blowing one direction on that one, we'll see.

dude the cubs aren't king kong randomly showing up and rampaging around one mere city.... they're more like communism in that it's been long planned out to slowly but surely take over as the way everybody in the world does things because it's clearly the only right way to do things in lieu of the other barbaric uncivilized and quite honestly archaic ways to go about "life".

We knew that. Cubs got Russel for Shark. McKinney/Straily for Hammel. Arrieta and Strop for Feldman.

Heh, not every GM can win trades like Theo.

How is that working out for them?

you missed the point

Cubs have made good moves and other teams have not?

No, you made that point clearly.

No, that was not the point.

Straily for Fowler was a good deal. I was impressed that the Cubs realized Beane just gave them leftover garbage for Shark and immediately started dumping those pieces for whatever they could. Russell got swept up in the hype machine though, so no getting rid of him while you can.

Billy Beane is a genius, really. He got 6 months of a good starting pitcher, a future All Star SS and some loose ends that may turn out to be something (I liked Bassitt and Ravelo has a good bat) in exchange for some garbage AAAA pitcher, a SS that will never be as good as Semien and the vaunted "toolsy OFer." Seriously brilliant, played both Chicago teams like a fiddle.

ASG debate: Is Pederson or Bryant the top rookie?

Baseball is riding another wave of young talent this spring, with big-name prospects turning into Major League stars before our wide-open eyes. Youth will certainly be represented at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. But if you had to make a choice between the guy who was most breathlessly awaited and the one who has made the biggest difference in the early going, who would you pick? The Cubs' Kris Bryant or the Dodgers' Joc Pederson?

Hmmm, no mention of Rodon... BUT BUT...... how can that be..... He is the next S. Carlton?.

ASG debate: Bryant or Carpenter at third?

the question here is who should be the NL's starting third baseman in the All-Star Game -- the Cardinals' Matt Carpenter or the Cubs' Kris Bryant?

STARTING first baseman Bryant. BUT BUT... how can that be.... He is a left fielder who is playing a poor 3B.... Must be a typo. Yeah, yeah that's has to be it!

White Sox fans you are the laughing stock of Chicago. How does it feel?

Kris Bryant is T-12th in WAR among NL 3B with Kelly Johnson and Yunel Escobar. Tied with Yangervis Solarte (trash) for 8th in wRC+. Rogers is a complete idiot pretending Bryant's even a member of the debate, especially with Nolan Arenado playing the way he is.

WAR and wRC+ only count when they support your argument.

Both of those stats factor in games played.

If America or yourself would like to bet some real U.S. currency on where Bryant ends up in WAR and wRC+ compared to Johnson, Escobar and Solarte, I'd likely be willing to participate.

I'm not bashing Bryant. I'm not even saying a certified slugger doesn't have more value than a top of rotation pitcher with the way the game has gone and with run scoring at a premium. All I'm saying is that the idea that Rodon could be a more valuable player than Bryant and that more than a few teams might think so isn't some foolish fantasy spouted by crazy Sox fans.

Well that part about wRC+ is just wrong, from Fangraphs:
Quote:
Similar to OPS+, Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+) measures how a player’s wRC compares with league average after controlling for park effects. League average for position players is 100, and every point above 100 is a percentage point above league average. For example, a 125 wRC+ means a player created 25% more runs than a league average hitter would have in the same number of plate appearances. Similarly, every point below 100 is a percentage point below league average, so a 80 wRC+ means a player created 20% fewer runs than league average.

Even better:

Yangervis Solarte: 99 PA
Corey Spangenberg: 55 PA (another guy with the same WAR as Bryant, does anyone know who he is?)
Yunel Escobar: 116 PA
Kris Bryant: 99 PA

So yea he's right with these guys in terms of plate appearances.

Its worth nothing that Kris Bryant has by far the highest BABIP of any NL 3B, so his stats are a little inflated and there's a little bit of luck keeping him up in the Solarte-tier. Once that BABIP regresses down he'll probably be about Aaron Hill offensively.

A couple years ago I suggested the Cubs should trade Javy Baez (bat speed!!!) for him. The butt hurt police did not like that suggestion. Not. One. Bit.

I would give the Cubs Zach Putnam for Junior Lake and Javier Baez right now. The Cubs get a new closer, the Sox get some lottery tickets in Charlotte.

Baez and Lake aren't winning the Cubs any games this year and Putnam could immediately be your best pitcher in the bullpen. You just dont want to admit defeat.

Why did St. Theo let him go when he would obviously be the 5th or 6th best pitcher on the Cubs this year?

I dont believe in BABIP too much, I just think its fun to make Kris Bryant out to be a platoon 3B and bad offensive LF.

If you took a vote of GM's that would take Rodon over Bryant, you would get zero GM's taking Rodon. Rodon was not even the first pick of the draft. Come on JORR, don't over value your prospect like you claim Cub fans do.

I'm not saying Rodon does not have a chance at becoming a better player then Bryant. Offcourse he does, but if you had a rookie draft TODAY, Pederson and Bryant would be 1/2 and then everyone else.

By the All-Star break it may be Rodon and everyone else. That is not what I am arguing. I am saying as of today, no one would choose Rodon based on his potential vs. Bryant's potential. Power hitters who get on base are more valuable in todays game then power arms that need TJ surgery more times then not at some point.

The Astros drafted a guy then walked away because he was an injury risk (round up tearing that shit so good call I guess) and the Marlins drafted a teenager with a big fastball. Rodon dropping to 3 was shocking and would not happen had the Astros known about Aiken's elbow before the draft.

Bryant wasn't picked first either.

I think its funny that you call Bryant a power hitter when his .111 ISO is good for 18th among 3B and only ahead of Melky Cabrera among qualifying LF. If you polled GM's they'd probably take the arm over a power hitter who K's 30% of the time and doesn't hit for power.

It's become quite a talent and a serious problem on the board. The lure on the end of the hook is so enticing. Imagine if these guys focused on snagging Asian Carp? The threat to the Great Lakes would be eliminated.

No kidding, I should have just let it go....

I should have
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold back the trolls anymore
Let it go, Let it go
Turn my back on JORR

The score board glows white at the Cell tonight
Not a run for the White Sox to be seen
A fandom of isolation, and it looks like Rodon's the queen
Good Dolphin is howling, No Bryant HR's
Theo is no Billy Beane!

Couldn’t keep it in
Heaven knows I tried

Bryant will be fine
Just give him time
You will see
How great he will be!

Don’t let them in, don’t let them believe
The trolls won't ruin this season for me

Russell is all hype
Solar can't hit a strike
And Lester can't throw!
Just thought you should know

Let it go, let it go
Can't take the stupids anymore
Let it go, Let it go
No one wants to talk WhiteSox on the score

Just to let you know
Before I go
Your trollng never bothered me anyway!
