White Sox draw only modest crowd to radio
Even a World Series-worthy performance by the White Sox did little to boost ratings during the regular season for the pennant winner's Chicago radio outlet.
Arbitron figures released Monday for the summer quarter showed ESPN Radio sports/talk flagship WMVP only marginally improved in the final year of its contract with the club. The ABC-owned station moved up at night from 16th place with a 2.2 percent share last year to 12th with a 3.0 share this year.
Despite a poorer record by the Cubs, the team's Tribune Co.-owned radio home, news/talk WGN, enjoyed a bigger boost from baseball, finishing second at night with a 7.4 share. Once again, WGN ranked first overall and first in mornings with Spike O'Dell.
There Ya Go...I rest my case. Again.
None of those blue-haired old ladies have cable that's why 'GN radio makes out like a bandit on Cubs games. Of course, it's not exactly an advertiser's ideal demographic . . .
It's great to have won a World Series.
