Used a Discount Taxi company this morning, for a long trip. cost $76. Note, it was at 7 AM, very little traffic, easy ride.

Took the same route back at about 3 PM, much more traffic via UBER. $36!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Normally dont take such long rides, thus could never really fairly compare the 2, as variables might be different from one to the other trip, but this is a pretty vast difference.

and the Uber trip actually got off at the wrong exit, thus making the trip a little longer.

chance of rape in taxi = 1%
chance of rape in uber= 13%

My guess is the uber car was more than 50% cleaner than the taxi.

Much cleaner in the Uber vehicles, used them a ton this week. Most had cold bottles of water as well. They said no charge, I still left a $ for the bottles.

Outside of 1 guy that would like to live in complete isolation from everyone, the other 10 drivers all were good people.

Not that the taxi driver was a bad guy, but he did text me 2 more times to see if I needed a ride back from the 70$ ride...actually getting pissed thinking about it.

uber can realistically surprise charge you whenevfer they want. a friend of mine got a $40 bill on his credit card the other day, and he was noting that he's had the arbitrary prime time jack-up on his bills befo0re (usually $5-10) but this time he figures the chick drove all the way home on his tab after dropping him off, and then you're kind of in a position where it's a big hassle to fight it so you're prolly gonna let the extra $20-25 slide.

biggie, aren't you like party in vegas good with $$$? why dont you have a car?

I must've missed BigFan's conversion to the Church of UBER. Seem to recall BigFan wondering why anyone would ever take an UBER when you could ride in a smelly, cramped, randomly available, expensive Chicago taxi. Image

Self-driving, flying cars that cure cancer by Gregerson Wnekeious. Totally a window into the future as described by our new ruling class.

Im very seriously considering getting out of the trucking industry and into black cars from MDW and ORD to downtown. The going rate from MDW to (lets just say) the Hilton is $55, thats like free money.

I think the Poles run the livery game around here. Tread lightly.

I used to do drugs with some of the more ethnic, south-side-living-by-the-airport-white-trash, Poles back in HS. They'll leave me alone.

I've been offering my HIGH QUALITY MOSTLY DRUG FREE CDL class A services for $25 hour to no avail. Even now when its like 80 degrees outside everyone wants to spend a couple large on an army of box trucks as opposed to just me with a rented Ryder Cascadia for like $500 total. If you wanted an argument that capitalism fails I'm it.

Ah yes, his less fortunate cousin, "bad porpoise."

The highest concentration of American White Trash can be found within a 20 block vicinity of Midway Airport.

us sophisticated city people all immigrated to the north side

Still, to this day, I have no blood relatives who live south of the polish triangle.

The ease of Uber was the attraction, not the pricing. At one point in Chicago the HALO app was the same as the UBER app.

Now that HALO has left Chicago, the need to call the idiots at YELLOW is not the best communication, nor is their texting system.

UBER has the downside of SURGE pricing, which is a complete joke. My cab Sunday morning at 6 Am was 2.5X? if I requested it..That would have been a $100 ride, that I got for $40 from a limo company.

Also, calling for an UBER ride when you are out, sometimes is tough as they dont have anything on the car that identifies them, so if you are somewhere that it is busy, you got low odds of finding your ride.

The lower rate for longer rides is a bonus for UBER, if its not during surge pricing that is.

Guy i work with has another service he uses for weekend 'night out' stuff. It's called BeMyDD. Basically, guy shows up at your house and drives you around all night, in your car. I want to say it was about $15/hour.

Not something you would use if short cab trips could get you there, but he uses it for nights where they will be all over. The last time he used it, they were going from their house in Naperville, to a dinner in oak brook then a concert in the city. Those are long, expensive cabs. He did say it feels a liitle like your uncle driving you to prom sometimes...

They have an 'emergency' service if you get in trouble. They send 2 drivers and one drives you home. He used that once when he took some clients to a Cubs game and they wanted to go out after. No way he was driving home.
