You might not like the show anymore or just dont watch it, like myself but the guy took TV to another level. Not just talk shows, but TV in general.

His show was true improv in many situations, even if they had a script, but from 'The guy Under the stairs" to "Roller coaster Cam"...and a ton of other things.

He allowed TV shows to not be so formal and planned out. Which made it interesting, as you knew almost anything could happen.

I think Dave will give credit to Johnny, as I think he crafted his career around him.

Bill Murray is scheduled to be his last guest. Should be good.

Last show is Wed night, just in case you arent aware,

Meh. I do like Bill Murray so I may DVR and just watch that portion.

But likely not.

Saw a clip this morning of Norm MacDonald. He was breaking up trying to give props to Dave. Letterman did a lot for comics. Especially that ungrateful Leno.

I assume Dave would say nothing about leno, but you never know.

Dave gave tons of guys breaks. Seinfeld....who I never liked as a comedian, doesnt get anything without dave

I'll try to check out the show tomorrow night. For some reason he has Bob Dylan as a musical guest.

I have been recording his shows for the last week or so. Pretty good. I go back to the days of his short lived morning show...I have not always watched him or made it appointment tv....but I always liked his show.

I want to see drew barrymore show up and flash him again!

Didn't Letterman just copy a bunch of stuff Steve Allen did?

Stern tried to get Dave to talk about Jay, but he didn't really take the bait. Dave told Howie that Jay invited him to be a guest during his last week, but Dave didn't want to take the attention away from Jay.

Wasn't he on Carson before Letterman?

I liked Johnny Carson. Seemed like such a nice guy. He didn't act smarter or "above" your average person. Turns out he was an asshole in real life.

I never had any affinity for Letterman. Not lovable in any sense. Just a smartass. You were not like him. He was above you. Yes, maybe funny, but I don't like him. Never did.

Agreed...the Chris Elliot stuff from the early years was outstanding. I view the show's trajectory like The Simpsons...ten years of gold, and then becoming comfortable.

When it was probably Dave and Chris writing most of the stuff...or Chris writing it and Dave chuckling at it, and saying "Ok, lets try it"...Now you know they have 7 writers who each have 2 assistants.....

Big Chris Elliott fan. On his last show,he should have Elliot come from under the stage again. The last time he did it was on Conan's show he said he was depressed and went below, then you heard a gunshot. His bizarre sense of humor makes him one of the best talk show guests ever!

I was a huge fan of his FOX show Get A Life in the early 90's.

Loved that show, didn't it have Bill Murray's brother as his father?

It was on right before In Living Color

Yes. His Dad, Bob Elliott, played his show dad.

Great show, great intro with "Stand" as the lead-in music.

I remember that episode where Chris was drinking the toxic sludge or something like that. Good stuff.

Definitely an old school Fox Network show.

Chris Elliot's dad was a partner in show biz with another guy and were funny in the old days.

Per Letterman, this was a 2 take scene due to the bad camera action and the director could not say do it again because nobody knew how this was going to go...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMuScu9OpfA

Now everyone goes out on the street taking in the dumb American public, unscripted, Dave did it first.
