That was a terrific show. And also a terrific final show. Dave was appointment tv for me back in the day and became so again over the last few months. I was struck by how many comedians (and others) paid tribute to Dave and particularly how strongly many of them seemed to be affected by his departure. As am I for various reasons.

Yes, I see that Dave Grohl will be on hand ferrying another pop culture icon across the river of significance like a slacker Charon.

I was bummed that I fell asleep early and missed it live until I saw that Dave Letterman ended his career by throwing to the fucking Foo Fighters.

I'm sure it was a really awesome experience for Dave Grohl. Maybe he can write a boring song about it and get alternative stations to play it four times a day.

Not a fan of Grohl's music, stories you hear about him make him seem like a chill guy tho.

'Eagles of Death Metal' make decent road tunes. I think they are in the constellation of Grohl related bands.

Whenever I see Dave Grohl I can't help but think of the Billy Joel lyric, "We might be laughing a bit too loud, aw, but that never hurt no one."

Thought it was a solid finale, with the Top Ten list being the highlight. I found myself smiling the entire show. I didn't realize Biff Henderson was still the stage manager. Or that all of the original band members were still there.

My favorite line of the night was probably the one mentioning Stephen Hawking.

Older than the hills :-)

What I liked about the older shows is they were done live. Since stuff WILL go wrong, its a question of how well you can ad lib out of it. They got a couple of them on YouTube. One has him up a flagpole (with piano) where he proceeds to make prank calls.

Watched him say his goodbyes and as an older father of a young boy myself I relate to his relationship with his son. Im guessing that when I shuffle off this mortal coil my biggest regret will be not being around longer to have more time with him, something I'm sure Dave feels as well. I was struck though when they showed his wife and son about the debate that springs up here every so often of hard work getting you ahead in life rather than luck. That kid is one day going to inherit a couple hundred million dollars so I guess that takes him out of the hard work discussion.

At first I wasnt sure if it was Daves wife and kid. As he has so amny times done something like that....."HEy, Its Joan Collins!"

Watched the last 30 minutes and just the bits from the years were funny as hell.

I didn't watch much over the last fifteen years, but I absolutely loved the show in the 90's. Watching the montage at the end made me a little bit sad that this is the end. I should have watched more after he made his announcement that he was retiring.

I thought it would've been cool if they broke out the original theme song for his entrance. Intellectual property issue maybe?

Why do the Foo Fighters have three guitar players? Isn't two enough?

Radiohead has three guitarists, but that's because Thom and/or Jonny move to keyboards or synths or crazy electronic doodads for lots of songs. Sometimes songs have no guitar at all and Ed O'Brien just has to play maracas or something.

I had this future flash of my life at age 70, buying "The Best of Letterman" CD gift set.

Comparing it to those I have mocked over the years who have bought the Dean Martin Roasts, the Best of Lawrence Welk and if a Gunsmoke collection is out there....I would have mocked that too.

Overall the finale was good, but I questioned a couple of the top 10..and while I really like Dave Grohl...The Foo Fighters??? Really??? Would have been nice to see at least a hint of emotion from Dave, but I dont think he is capable of it.

The Foo Fighters, much like David Letterman, haven't been genuinely subversive for about twenty years, so in a way, it works.

Dude he mentioned they were his favorite band , played his first show after his heart surgery. Have to cut him a little slack for self indulgence on the last segment of his show

I know...but I was hoping for a little more star power in the last guest.

When Jay Leno decided to accept NBC's offer to return as host of the Tonight Show and to replace Conan O’Brien after just a few months, it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. The animosity was highlighted at the time when Jimmy Kimmel repeatedly excoriated Jay Leno in an ambushed segment on the Jay Leno Show (Leno’s primetime show after stepping down as host of the Tonight Show the first time).
