Two rooftop Wrigley rooftop businesses went to court Thursday to stop the Cubs from installing a video scoreboard and advertising that will block their views into the stadium.

The owners, led by Edward McCarthy, run the businesses at Lakeview Baseball Club, at 3633 N. Sheffield Ave., and Skybox at Sheffield, at 3627 N. Sheffield Ave. They filed a federal lawsuit last month against the Cubs, accusing the team of anti-competitive behavior and violating the terms of a 20-year contract that granted rooftop owners the right to sell tickets to games.

They are seeking a temporary restraining order to halt installation because they say their businesses will be destroyed before the case goes to trial.

And folks expect owners who can't sort out this rooftop crap and publicly beef with Billy the Cub to end a century long championship drought.

I am sure the Cubs have made these dopes offers, but these are the guys that refinanced to the tune of $33 Mill. What they did with $33 Mill, I have no idea, because for $3 M you can build one of those places.

Its just desperation, nothing more.

Declare bankruptcy, go out of business, claim you spent all the money trying to save your business, blame the Cubs, retire to Cuba with the $30 mil.

Lotta bankruptcy scams around these days. e.g., Sears, the Sun-Times, the City of Chicago....

Man what where they thinking. Those places cannot clear that much yearly to support a loan of that size. How did they even convince a bank on that amount of money.

A little 'Greek Lightning' on a few of those buildings likely fixes the issue for everyone involved.

Great idea....

I really look forward to hearing stories of them getting pennies on the dollar.
At least Loukas finally said if you can't beat 'em join 'em.
He's probably also fed plenty of info to Ricketts on his former "alliance".

I'm on Page 13 of the opinion so far. The rooftop owners never had a chance....

http://www.scribd.com/doc/260736170/The ... ideo-board

I haven't read a lot of these, in my life, but it is hilarious. Much of it goes:

"The rooftops failed to establish A and B. And even if C, D, E, F somehow were changed and fell into their favor, they still would not be able to succeed based on X, Y and Z."

Even though many think you are me, I will still offer my opinion.

From the very start of this the rooftop owners fucked up. Yes, a few of them have lots of money...Mr Loukas for example and when you hve lotsa money, you often have an issue with ever backing down from anything. You think you are right, you will get what you want and thats it.

There was one rooftop owner...who owned the one with the LF Pole, that says 461 on it. He bought the house that was there and built the building to watch games in about 2003. He was the first guy to make BIG income from watching games and the first guy to get out in about 2008/9 when the Cubs came knocking as he said...they will do everything possible to ruin us and then buy them. 6/7 years later....he is right and he cashed out nicely. $7M is what I heard.

What I think the Ricketts will do and what the rooftop owners should have done is make it into yawkey way. Have the bars on the ground floor, close the streets, etc etc.
Sure, it wasnt as easy as taking tickets and then closing down after the games, but they really blew an easy long term solutuon.

These foolish roof top owners could have easily got this passed, as it was a rather simple solution to a problem. Of course a big part of that problem was that the rooftops were some of , if not, Tunneys biggest $$$ contributors, thus he want to bat for them until there was ZERO hope. So this type of Scenario, he could have got done...

The Cubs love this. They are ready to steal the business from the Clubs....and the target of all of it...Beth Murphy. They are going to love putting 4 tavenrs on each side of her...

It's been at least 10 years but I enjoyed the area around Fenway. Not sure if like being gouged as a frequent fan attendee. It's possible in Chicago there could be a fan backlash that it is now mall of America or some shit?

I agree, but for example, I might not go as much if I could sell my tickets for a profit...so I am OK with it for that reason, but still doesnt mean I like it or do I think it should happen

Yawkey Way is fine for Boston, but Chicago isn't Boston. Blocking off a little nub of a side street in the LSD spiderweb that is Boston's road system isn't the same as turning a block of Sheffield Avenue into Ricketts Way.

$350 for the Building/Land
$1 mill to build

7-9 years of HUGE income....$15-25K for a rooftop party.

Plus $5 K for the floor below which looked right into Wrigley..

2 - 3 BR Apts...easy $2000 a month each.

Estimating Annual Gross Revenues of $800K or more...Net of about 50%....

he could show some amazing numbers on the books as the premiere rooftop, got the biggest bucks during the 2003-2007 Run.

Was the basis for everyone else over estimating their potential earnings.

We cannot help you until you get in the clan. :/

The first 24-48 hours are a bit annoying, I won't lie. But once you're in, we can give you high level shit which, in addition to the infamous COC chat, makes it fun.
