You have to be deathly concerned that the Hawks have brought back 2012's unholy union of not scoring power play goals and not killing penalties. At least Crawford has been pretty good this time, but Andersen is in their head like Baby McNown. They look intimidated. We've seen this before, where they resort to lobbing low-percentage shots so they can at least say they put shots on net without ever taking any risks. The league is getting ugly again, maybe too ugly for its own good (I'm just about ready to peace out on the NHL after this year), but the Hawks aren't adapting.

It sucks, but I'm starting to be fine with firing Quenneville after this year. The deal we've always made with Q is that we concede that he's a horrible strategist but he covers for it by running such a good dressing room, where players love him and play hard for him. Okay, well, his in-game strategy has been as bad as ever with the scratching of Antoine Vermette for Joakim Nordstrom, and the room isn't even healthy insofar as these guys all hate each other for fucking each other's wives, and as for playing hard, this team has dropped like a stone after New Year's two years in a row. The championship window is two losses away from closing. You could argue that it'd be best to move on right away and get an NCAA coach: you can tell that that's the way the wind's blowing with NCAA hockey on the rise, a youth movement coming to Chicago, and Bowman in particular having a boner for NCAA players. Go get Mike Eaves out of Wisconsin and let Q coach Buffalo or retire.
