Season series: 5-2 Diamondbacks in 2014.

Friday: 8:40 p.m., CSN+.
LH Jon Lester (4-2, 3.70) vs. RH Josh Collmenter (3-5, 5.36).

Saturday: 9:10 p.m., CSN.
RH Jake Arrieta (4-4, 2.77) vs. RH Rubby De La Rosa (4-2, 4.08).

Sunday: 3:10 p.m., WGN-9:
RH Jason Hammel (3-1, 2.70) vs. RH Jeremy Hellickson (1-3, 5.52)

Snakes are hot on a 4-game winning streak. Their Cuban, Yasmany Tomas, is hitting .349/.391/.442. Our Cuban, Jorge Soler, sucks.

Diamondbacks take 2 of 3.

Cards take on the Royals this weekend. If the Cubs don't fuck this up they could gain another game or so on them if Royals do their thang.

Currently I'm living in Cubbie la-la land so I'm trying my hardest to ignore the Cubs are only sporting a +3 run differential while being 6 games up. One of those things has to change.

Having the most 1 run wins in the majors is a great thing. Teams that have a knack for winning the close games, tend to fare well. With their top 3 pitchers going in this series, they should have a chance in each game. With the D-backs pitchers sporting ERA's over 5 in games 1 & 3, the offense should prosper.....I like their chances for another series win.

The goal is WINS....those 1 run wins ...or losses...are the difference.

Nothing worse than the team that wins 12-1 , once every 2 weeks and thinks that is really the team they are...

When you get to a playoff game, or a playoff race, those big margin wins rarely exist....playing in 1 run games...and winning them, helps.

Plus, I do like The Maddon theory on not practicing too much. His teams have closed seasons well for years....and the Cubs have not closed well for years.

that is correct. My bet is on the games. This team still struggles too much to score runs.

Which is strange considering how well Bryant and Rizzo are doing. Fowler has been better than I thought too. So wheres the breakdown? Soler?

In general, I believe teams will revert back to the mean (so they may be destined to start losing some of them).

If Soler or Castro (or both) can pick it back up, the Cubs offense should get back to being more consistent like they were earlier in the season.

Cubs offense will be fine. It's all about the pitching. Lester 4-0 with an ERA under 2 in his last 4 starts. A chance to go 5-0 in May tonight. I expect him to get it done.

Cubs take 2 out of 3 with a chance of sweep.

Well, if the hitting is fine, I think the starting pitching will be fine.

If Lester and Arrieta continue doing their thing, Hammel regresses just a little bit, and Wada and Hendricks stick to being high 3 / low 4 ERA pitchers, I'm happy with the rotation.

The bullpen worries me, but Strop should become reliable again, and Rondon and Grimm have been decent. Rosscup also. And J. Russell is my guy.

Maybe the Cubs can sign Soriano.

His WHIP is great. He strung together some hits in a few appearances in a row to make his performance seem much worse. He'll not only be fine, but really good, by season's end.

They score as they need to...or you can say they have been damn lucky to Score when they need to....or WEAREGOOD

but city is correct...they are right in the middle of the pack when it comes to scoring runs....but have used those runs very well

I'm also hoping they can pick up a game or more while losing 2 out of 3.

Those are just deoressing losses.

You lose a game 8-4. OK Move on....score 2 in extra innings! and lose!

I am OK with Maddon thowing everything he has at the problem.

To show what a douche Kasper is becoming , as Goldschmidt came to bat in the 10th Deshaies suggested that maybe Maddon thinks so far outside the box that intentionally walking him albeit bringing the winning run to the plate might be a good option. Len basically dismissed it as a dumb idea then wham, Goldschmidt hits a 2 run game tying homer. After the half inning was over and they came back, Len had to admit it might not had been a bad idea. Deshaies is really growing on me while slowly but surely, Len is becoming more and more Bernsteinesque.

Deshaies first suggested it as Goldschmidt was heading to the plate and I thought damn, that's an interesting idea. Len never said "dumb." He said "no," as in he didn't think Joe would do it and send the winning run to the plate. Deshaies quickly agreed.

That is an intriguing idea, but let's be serious. If Maddon had walked Goldschmidt and they tie the game or lose the game with the next batter people are ready to hang Maddon for such a stupid decision.

It sounds like a good idea after we know the outcome...

ES should denounce Rizzo's leadership skills after he ball-watched a possible inside the parker into a double. White guys just can't be doing that.
