even when Shark was pitching better than Sale last year, I said Shark still needs to show a full season of not having those disaster innings on constant basis....so my thoughts on him havn't changed since he was a Cub.

Bottom line is that he can pitch like an Ace, but he isnt an Ace.

Theo wins. He trades Hammel and Shark for real talent. They both proceed to suck for the A's. Shark saps the Sox of some talent, and proceeds to suck for them. The Cubs re-sign Hammel and get good value. To complete the circle of success, the Cubs would need to sign Shark to an attractive team friendly deal and then he returns to form.

No, enlighten me. It seems to me that a team scoring 4 runs per game in 2015 would do well with a pitcher who would give up less than 3 runs per game.

Teams don't score four runs per game. Some may average four runs per game. And Samadzija doesn't allow three runs per game. Sometimes he allows 1 and sometimes he allows 8 and more often than not he allows more than his opponent who you would like us to believe usually isn't as good as Jeff Samardzija.

We do agree. But I don't see how you can agree to that without agreeing that his ERA and WHIP are not as indicative of his abilities as are his results in real competition.

The explosion of available statistics seems to have caused people- many of whom should know better- to view the game as a battle between averages rather than as a battle between human beings. There's more to successfully pitching a big league game than simply limiting baserunners or even runs scored. The context of each specific game is everything.

All I'm saying is that this dude is a loser. I don't care which statistic you use to prove that. You can use his ERA. You can use his career W/L record. You can point to the fact he's had one goddamn winning season. You could say his WHIP sucks. Or you could use the eyeball test. Whatever it takes man I don't care. He's a loser.
