Florio was on with Spiegel and Goff this morning, and he said something that was really hard to believe...that while the Bears' only losses in this signing are the public embarrassment, the NFL has been considering handing down punishments (i.e., losing draft picks) to teams that sign "questionable" players who have a history of problems. What?

Blacklisting players sounds like a wonderful idea.

I would be very surprised if the league pulls that one off.

If the league wanted that they would have to have some written criteria and then place players on a Pete Rose iron clad banned list. Not happening.

That's makes sense until they are falsely accused or ask for forgiveness.

Players are not going to be blacklisted.

Amazing that some in this thread have taken this idiotic personnel move and tried to turn it into a social commentary. It was a bad move then and it's a bad move now. Ray McDonald is not the missing piece to a Super Bowl.

And is if the Bears didn't look dumb enough over this, the owner comes out again today and mentions victim bias.

"On Tuesday, a partial recording released by the California Highway Patrol had a 911 caller — identifying herself as the mother of the alleged victim — saying McDonald was drunk upon his arrival. He was arrested at another residence.
On Wednesday, the Mercury News acquired more complete audio. Here are some of the latest details:
The 3:48 a.m. emergency call, which was relayed to Santa Clara police, also alleged that when the woman tried to barricade herself in a bedroom with the infant she had with McDonald, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound defense lineman “broke down” the door and tried to take the baby from her before leaving, by himself, in a car
“She said she received a call from her daughter … advising that her boyfriend Ray McDonald was being violent,” the dispatcher said. “She tried to lock herself in her bedroom but he broke the door down … Ex is trying to leave now with her infant.”

We all just need to forgive.

Why was it a bad signing? By all accounts he was a good guy and many believed that the woman was lying. It's not like they signed Adrian Peterson or Greg Hardy.

Unnecessary. The Bears were and are not a Ray McDonald away from a Super Bowl. High risk/low reward.

Greg Hardy. What does just about everyone say about the Cowboys? "If they only had a pass rusher" Personally, I wouldn't sign the guy but I can see why Jerry did. Way, way better player but a seems to be a bigger scumbag. High risk/high reward.

Wrong.

2013 214 rushes 660 yards 3.1 avg. 44 YPG

That's why he's not playing and AP is.

I said it when I first saw the commercial. No doubt in my mind that half the guys in the commercial have beat their wife or girlfriend.

He had a contract that was voided incorrectly and the NFL lost. Or do you forget that press conference where the Ravens stood behind him?

He's not playing because he's been blacklisted.

Ray Rice isn't playing because he sucks. Adrian Peterson is playing because he's good.

Simple as that.

Now, there may be a blackball list for an average player. Or even slightly above average. That's gonna be McDonald now.

Greg Hardy and Adrian Peterson are playing because they are productive. 1 of them is one of the top running backs in the league and the other has 33 sacks in 4 full seasons. Leonard Little killed someone while drunk driving. Lawrence Phillips dragged his girlfriend down a flight of stairs and was drafted 6th overall by the Rams.

If Ray Rice was 25 years old, you can bet someone would have given him a chance.

Here is how a player gets "blackballed"- he no longer is productive.

Not apologizing for this goof but the CBS story says he was not served yet with the restraining order not to go back to her.

The Ravens held press conference when his incident with his wife was reported. They initially planned to keep him. Your opinion of his skill set doesn't agree with the Ravens front office.

Hmmm.....I don't know....maybe they don't think he's worth the trouble? Quite a backlash over this specific case. Because....again just a guess....he's not a real good running back anymore?

So if Ray Rice is 25 years old, do you think they bring him back?

Former Bears defensive end Ray McDonald was arrested for the second time in three days Wednesday — on suspicion of violating the restraining order given him after Monday’s arrest on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment, according to Santa Clara (Calif.) police.

They're very suspicious of him.

They were going to bring him back at 30 years old last year.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they would have brought him back at 25 as well.

I have no problem with the Bears signing the guy with the way the contract was worded.
