My sister was diagnosed several years ago with a Stage 3 glioblastoma... initially going into the process, doctors believed they caught it in a Stage 2 state, and that a simple surgery could remove it. Her surgery happened within two weeks of the new Rush facility having been open (a whole other subject to discuss) but when we were in the waiting room, the doctor gave us the news that there were several "fingers" of the tumor that they could not remove, due to the risks of operating within the brain. They had successfully removed a good portion of it, but they would have to rely on chemo and radiation to take care of the rest.

Thankfully, it worked... not a fun process, but according to the doctors she looks cancer-free. Incidentally, tomorrow my sister is getting married to a great guy, and I am incredibly happy for her. Brain cancer is so tough because in so many cases, there's literally nothing you can do -- you have to have your brain... there's parts of the brain that you can't live without. And it is one of those things where someone can be looking and acting totally healthy one day and then 2 weeks later you're at the funeral.

I know people like to poke fun at Biden and for good reason, but I do really feel for the man with all of the personal losses he's had over his lifetime. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Newper,

Your poor sister has been through Hell and back. I hope nothing but a happy road ahead. That's a great story. Best of luck to her!!

I am not a fan of Joe Biden the politician, but he doesn't deserve this. (Obviously neither does Beau...)

Having lost a very good friend to a brain tumor at 50, it just sucks. Hopefully medical advancements keep coming at a rate that will help reduce the long-term impact of tumors regardless of location.
