I have a message stuck in my outbox, and I'm not sure why. I haven't changed any of my settings, and it's been about 12 hours. Any suggestions?

Correct. YOu can still delete it when its in the outbox unlike email which when it is sent you cant take it back.

I have 1 unread message in my inbox for eternity (which doesn't exist; due to deletion) from Panthro, presumably after he re-thought how crazy it probably was (I honestly don't remember even what this might be about). Although, in this case; it might be Trouble with PMS
