I'm not sure how his contract was structured...perhaps other teams wanted him, but not at 4.5m per year (or more).

I think he may also be demanding control of player personnel. He will get hired somewhere. Skiles and Gentry are both on their 4th jobs so the carousel is running rather well. The perception that he would be able to write his own ticket was simply flawed. There were individuals posting here that believed that the Magic and Pelicans were clamoring for his services and that was simply not true.

LTG - Your reasoning (teams haven't called him must mean he's overrated) can also apply to Red Auerbach. The pelicans didn't call him either so I guess he sucks too. Grow up man. Thibs is good overall and he'll get hired.

They guy never has to work another day in his life. Why would he take the first shitty job offer to come along?

I have stated that he will get rehired so there really isn't any news there. I am a grown man last time I checked. My contention is that he is overvalued by people that post here. He is not the second best coach in the league. He is closer to top ten than top five. He is a good coach. He is really good defensively but offensively he stinks. The only problem that I have is that there is tendency to make his firing about things other than basketball.

The Bulls underachieved and most NBA believed that they underachieved. Wilbon stated it again just yesterday. Thibs has to own that. There were people here arguing that he was worth compensation. Obviously he wasn't. There were people bitching about GarPax preventing him from getting another job. The Magic and Pelicans both hired their coaches after he was fired. Teams were not clamoring for the services of Thibs. Thats my essential point. He will be rehired. I have never disputed that. I do believe that the Bulls were correct in firing him and I don't think it was about his inability to get along with women. I think the Bulls wanted a better offensive coach and I believe that they wanted a coach that would develop the younger players on the team. He wasn't that guy.

Typically shitty jobs are the only ones that are available. The Pelican job is really not shitty. They have a top five player and they were a team that made the playoffs last yr.

Has anyone reported that Thibodeau was fired for basketball reasons? Were those basketball reasons inside the press release?

He will have an NBA head job in 2016-17 and will be at the top of every short list by the middle of next season. Timing was the reason he does not have a job for next season.

Worst 3 point shooting team 3 years running , no post game except this year but GarPax gave Thibs a great roster that should've beaten Miami and now Cleveland.

Once they Hire Hoiberg and conduct the press conf. It will be obvious why he was hired and conversely why Thibs was fired. When Paxson states that Thibs would have his job if they'd reached the Finals that is a basketball reason.

 At least Thibs won two games against Cleveland (the only two the Cavs have lost). I guess the coach of the Atlanta Hawks should be on the hot seat for getting swept out of the playoffs.

They shouldn't have beat Miami but Cleveland was there for the taking. When you play Hinrich for damn near 30 min. a game you are bound to have the worse three point shooting in the league. The best three point shooters on the team were probably the 10th and 11th man on the team. That won't help your percentage either.

Because GarPax likes him?

That was Paxson's way of saying that he would have tolerated Thibs. I was told in February or March that winning a championship would be the only thing that could save Thibs job.

But no one really believes that. They were playing footsie with Hoiberg for over a year.

This is another point that needs addressing too regarding the coaching ability of Thibs. There has been a lot of bashing of Derrick Rose on here. There is a consensus that has been formed regarding the play of Rose. He has been criticized roundly for his poor play. He actually didn't play bad against Cleveland. Thibs featured Rose as the No. 1 option. which meant that he believed that Rose was still sort of good. If Rose wasn't considered to be good then why was he still clearly featured as the No. 1 option by Thibs. How much of that does he own?

Rarely has anyone critcized Rose's play. He has been criticized for getting hurt, for things he has said, and for having a brother who cares about him.

The backlash would have been much greater had they reached the finals. There would be no shame in losing to Golden State. You lose to Cleveland without Love, a hobbled Irving, and a poorly performing James then you should be held accountable.

Why wasn't Kyrie Irving attacked on defense? He guarded Rose with One leg and he was never attacked on defense. When people talk about adjustments this is what they are referring to. That matchup should have been exploited each and every time it was presented. That is what "great" coaches do.

Occasionally (moreso if you read Ike South), but most of the criticism of Rose has been over things he has said. He also took heat because the Bulls leaked the nonsensical lie that he was better than ever while he was coming back from his first injury, that his vertical had increased six inches or some such horseshit, and the media puppets reported it as fact.

I'm with LTG on this. Thibs is a good-but-not-great coach. He will get a job at some point in the future. Perhaps a mid-year replacement for an under-achieving team...and he will likely make them better. That said, I believe it was time for him to go. Like Ozzie Guillen (who I was a fan of for most of his tenure) his act had worn thin. A 5 yr run is pretty good these days & it is time to try something different, IMO.

You're the only one. No one else believes that he was fired for basketball reasons.

Didn't want to start a new thread but it's absolutely unbelievable that the very day of this hire these guys are already trotting out roster excuses for however Hoiberg performs.

No and no one has brought up him playing his starters excessive minutes when up 50 against the Bucks in round 1.

Suggesting he'll clearly fall short of the title just because of the current players they have and all the turmoil they've had to endure over the past 5 years and also the friction between Butler and Rose (which Dan is going to ask him about, as clearly he's extremely well versed on the topic).

They were inconsistent all season. I believe health and continuity played a role.

Those will be the excuses when they are worse next year for Hoiberg.

Has anyone besides bernstein reported even a hint or rumor about tension between Rose and Butler? Any respected NBA beat guys? Anyone?

Just to ask a question, as am I not nearly invested in this as you guys, but saying he played players to many minutes wouldn't be an excuse?

Bernstein's item about the 20 or whatever excuses for Hoiberg didn't clue you into the day's narrative?
