Sadly, as I attempted to post about one I know I realized I know several who are challenged. What's worse are people who think adjusting the thermostat higher (or lower to cool) will make the temperature change faster.

Quote:
The euphonium is part of the family of brass band instruments. It is sometimes confused with the baritone horn. The euphonium and the baritone differ in that the bore size of the baritone horn is typically smaller than that of the euphonium, (leading to a "darker" tone from the euphonium and a brighter sound from the baritone horn) and the baritone is primarily cylindrical bore, whereas the euphonium is predominantly conical bore. The two instruments are easily interchangeable to the player, with some modification of breath and embouchure, since the two have identical range and essentially identical fingering. The cylindrical baritone offers a brighter sound and the conical euphonium offers a mellower sound.

You are kidding me. He is a little older than me but the "Vacation" movies had to be 3-4 of the top money making movies of our youth. At the very least everyone our age saw Vacation and there is no forgetting Cousin Eddie

I've only seen the original "Vacation" once, parts of it another time. (I've never been a Chevy Chase fan) I've never seen any of the other Vacation movies & I had no idea who/what "Cousin Eddie" was until that character was brought up within the last week or so.

Go figure.

Think I already posted something about this but once wandered into the Hideout on a Monday night, expecting to see Leroy Bach and Edward Burch with a handful of other people in the front room. First sign something is amiss: the gaggle of people chilling out front--more people than had been at the previous month of Monday nights @the Hideout cumulative.

We get in and the place is full-ish and the back room is open but not so full you couldn't move--still comfortable inside.

Turns out the Smashing Pumpkins guy commandeered the Hideout to do a random one-off solo show.

This is like early 2003? So the internet wasn't quite the enabler of spontaneous flash mobs for any sort of activity surrounding any level of celeb.

We grab beers and are able to comfortably stand in the back room and take in the show.

Not a Pumpkins fan (at that time). Last time I saw the Pumkins live (before that night) was when Garbage opened up for them and the audience decided the star on Corgan's chest was a target for shoes. Corgan never stopped playing or stopped the show. He'd just flip a casual bird in whatever direction the shoe came from in response. The shoes never stopped coming.

Joked briefly with my drinking buddy about tossing a shoe Corgan's way in the back room of the Hideout; as we'd just gotten bounced from the Rainbo by someone who may or may not have been a member of Tortoise. Big line for the men's room at the Rainbo that night and dudes were going in one at a time when there are 2 pissers in the Rainbo's men's room. I tried to push my way in to avail myself of the 2nd pisser..yadda, yadda.

Back to the Hideout, Corgan's bouncing from instrument to instrument, playing a combination of familiar Pumpkins tunes and shit I ain't never heard. Eventually he eyes the piano on the Hideout's stage and sits down to play a tune. Corgan appears unsure of what he's gonna play for a minute and then tells a story and plays a song about an amusement park at Western & Belmont:

Image

obviously that's not from that night at the Hideout. but it's what came up when i youtube'd "Billy Corgan Riverview"

If anyone knows of a better version of it, that'd be cool; has a nice, haunting Springsteen Nebraska-era feel to it.

Well I think he said he's bad at it, so perhaps he has done a swatch or two thought it sucked and gave up.

I don't know if he's ever heard of him but he doesn't play in the Cubs minor league system, so probably not. When Terry mentioned today that most major league GMs would rather have Carlos Correa than Bryant, you could tell dan wanted to argue but didn't really know enough to do so. He started to mumble something about how that's meaningless. I mean, Bryant is the greatest baseball player to ever walk the earth. How could another team possibly have anyone better?????? dan didn't want to discuss the silly idea that anyone could be better than the GREAT KRIS "BABE" BRYANT.

Yeah you are on that. The vote was 8 to 7 so Dan said negligible or meaningless whatever. The point is and you get credit is that he was flabbergasted anyone might be as big a phenom as Bryant.

Over a hundred posts in this thread and not a one by CH complaining about how it should be titled, "List of things of which Bernstein has never heard."

Isn't the musical family the remaining kids of the family that John Kass always insists was killed by George Ryan?
