I give the guy credit. he did everything they wanted of him to become a MLB player. Went do to AAA and ate up the walks to get this high OBP and became selective. problem is at the MLB level, the pitchers eat him up. He cant hold off on the sliders he doesnt offer at in AAA. Just overmatched at this level. It happens, its why guys take PED's.

And save a seat for Matt Sczur on that bus. Great kid, cant work harder, its just not there. Cant keep guys that just hang on at the MLB level anymore...need real MLB players.

Well with Denorfia coming back soon someone has to go. I don't think any of us will lose any sleep with the departure of Lake, Sczur and or Baxter. We're shorthanded offensively as it is, can't carry guys three guys on the bench who can't hit or get on base.

Not going to miss him but the scouts got all giddy about his numbers and his OBP over the past year in minor league ball. I am sure he didnt shorten his swing, not chasing stuff, etc...but if it works in the minors....thats great, doesnt mean it works here. It means you get a look...and he got his look or looks.

Soler not healing quickly with the sprained ankle. I think Baez would have been back as well at this point if he wasnt on the DL.

The options are VERY limited at this point and I do think this is a case of JM seeing some raw talent and like every coach in every sport, THEY are going to be the one who turns the guy around. Its a coaches nature.

This is why depth in an organization is important and will be addressed....I assume.

The Junior Lake experiment will come to an end soon, maybe someone else from some other boyquarium of stat geeks loves his AAA numbers and wants a shot.

They are extremely different things.

Optioned means he goes back to AAA and is still completely under Cubs control, and will likely be back in Chicago at some time this season.

Designated for Assignment means he is out of options, and any team could claim him within 10 days, which many teams would do given his age and team control.
