That's no help when you take Dunston over Gooden or Mitchell over Trout.

Really, you are really reaching. Do you honestly believe draft pick position does not matter?

How did D.Strawberry, H.Baines, K. Fucking Griffey Jr, Chipper Jones, Arod, A.Gonzalez, J.Mauer, D.Price, S.Strasburg, B.Harper work out? And those where all number 1's

Take the 1st pick in the draft and the last pick in the draft and tell me there is no difference. That is just stupid.

Who would you rather have as a prospect JORR

Micah Johnson or Carlos Correa?

For the record I never said that. Rizzo>Arbreu you can put it on the board. Literally

It was once crazy to say Rizzo was as good as Votto, also.

Yes, but some of us simply disagree with intentional tanking. Purposefully sucking royally for years to stockpile high draft picks is an unsavory practice for teams to employ. The Cubs seem to have been given a pass due to the fanbase built up over the years and their unique situation of having a 107-year drought.

Better to be awful for a short time, to have the chance to be great for an extended period of time, than to be mediocre for an indefinite period.

A great pick as it turns out, but not as good a player as Bryant will be in the end. Bryant will be an MVP more than once. He already leads the Cubs in RBI with 24. But I will not be a bit surprised if the two battle it out over MVP honors over the next few years. Good problem to have, that they may make it tougher for a Cub to win MVP, because they take votes away from one another. I said Bryant would have over 30 HR and 100 RBI before the season began and that prediction is looking pretty good. All-star most likely too. What fun this is!!!

St. Louis Cardinals 5 week Reloading Plan:

Ace pitcher goes down for the year, again. Call up extra AAAA relievers and go with a 14-man bullpen until Plan B (Marco Gonzales) or C (Jaime Garcia) are ready. Best record in baseball? NBD

Right now Rizzo is doing better. Thats really not delusion.

Take away rizzo on this team right now and put Trout in,,,,,then have Cuddyher? at 1B for the cubs and I dont think this team is even close to where they are now.

I am aware the Sox fans dont take into account chemistry or playing together, except when it is used as an excuse for a team doing poorly, as I cant tell you how many times now I have heard 'they are all just getting used to each oher'.....

but I dont dismiss Rizzo as better than Trout, especially when all the stats are done, but the perfect fit of Rizzo on this team is pretty evident to see and has been denied by those who just dont like the Cubs.

"Primarily, we are addressing things for the long term," Hahn said. "We are acquiring players we can add to this young core we have been able to assemble over the last year-plus and have control of for the next extended period of time. If the right situation arises on a short-term basis, whether it's someone like LaRoche or somebody who addresses another need on a shorter time horizon than our focus has been, we would make that move."

Sounds very similar to what some other front office guys have said in this city. Interesting.

Purposely lose to win.

Looks like Hahn plan is working well. Though I'm unsure why Hahn believed he needed expensive dead ass veterans to tank a season.

From what I have seen the Sox forum seems to be the most active when they are playing poorly because all of the Cubs fans come in here and bump old threads to let us Sox fansknow how poorly they are playing.

I've got news for you Cubs fans, we know our team sucks right now.

Actually, it is to point out the dumb things some Sox fans say.

And that is done whether the Sox are winning or losing.

While I dont agree with him, I dont think they should look to trade much as it would be selling low and you dont get much for them...such as Shark right now...

this is the things about cubs fans that's going to bring about the cubpacalypse.... see i get that no less than 25-33% of all of your posts are trolling/baiting to some extent, but this general mindset that the cubs have "done everything right" in "the proper way" when at present they haven't won a goddamn thing other than ~30 games out of ~55 or something = a little premature don't you think?

how do you know that if they decided to keep the payroll high and "rebuild on the fly" or "reload" that they might not have snuck in as a wildcard one of those years and gotten hot and won the whole damn thing? yeah it's the cubs so we know THAT wouldn't happen, but the whole baseball playoff system is designed for this kind of thing to happen (mainly so people stay interested in their teams come the dog days of august and etc... but why are they interested? because there's now 2 wildcards out there and even .500 teams have a chance to make the playoffs and theoretically win the WS)

so now we're going to damn the ~2011-2014 cubs to abject futility? they were a giant payroll team, it's conceivable that with boy wonder / part time messiah theo at the helm they make some very cromulent FA moves that totally pan out and they sneak in as a WC or a cheeky division winner and get hot at the right time and win the whole damn thing. the giants teams that have won 3 WS weren't bowling you over with murderer's row type talent, right? bumgarner wasn't officially a world series hero til the 2014 WS? why not the cubs?

but yeah now we assume that any other plan would have been met with abject failure because this is the PROPER WAY to do it, even tho the system is designed to give any ol schmuck of a decent ballclub a chance because that's more $$$ in the pocket.

i'd say to act like you've been in the endzone b4 but you're cubs fans so who am i kidding? =D

i can't think of any other reason than shitty luck that literally every offseason acquisition has sucked ass.

Shark - garbage
Melky - huge disappointment
LaRoche - dunn jr.
Jennings - vomit
Duke - eh

Robertson - very good!

maybe a guy or two struggles but nearly everyone????

Nobody said they have done everything right (EJAX!) but I am happy with having a plan to try and build something great v The Fly By Night, HOPE FOR A WILDCARD SPOT...and HOPE WE GET HOT, then try and act like it all went according to plan and the reason they win is because of their ability to find great players...then think they really do things better than everyone else for the next decade.

Touche, and i'll also give you that where the cubs are right now certainly looks like it's going to be more exciting/entertaining/consistently-good-over-the-long-term than if you did annual re/loadings and tried to catch lightning in a bottle...

...but at the same time who's to say that this "plan" has been the PROPER way to do it. Yes early returns are promising as hell, but what if you end up like the 90s braves without their title? Or if you get one? Right now semantically speaking i'd say that the giants' "plan" is the PROPER way to do things, seeing as they've win 3 of the last 5 WS and they've done it by tanking to get Pablo Sandoval and Brandon belt who have prodigious power like Bryant and rizzo respectively, right? Lester > bumgarner any day of the week riiiight?

I don't wanna descend into cobtrarian territory enough for 8675309 to follow me around the board and bitterly reference #MyKindOfCar, but I DO want to say that it sure seems like we're anointing/crowning-the-ass of the cubs before they've won anything other than ~30 games in April/may. Yea, it might just be a formality/only-tine til they win some WC berths/divisions and quite possibly pennants/rings.... But to sit here on 6/3/2015 and to definitively say that the cubs' plan is THE PROPER WAY TO DO IT you might be inclined to ask "...do what?" And while i'd gladly take the 90s braves every day of the week if I was a cubs fan (cuz #TheyWereGood for 6 months out of every year for 10+ years and in the end baseball is about entertainment more than winning) I suspect cubs fans here would scoff at ONLY 90s braves type success cuz we're poised for history here.

If you could choose between the 90s braves (good for 10+yrs / 1 title) or the 2010s giants (3 titles in 5 years, no playoffs the other 2yrs and for the sake if argument let's say they don't make the playoffs for another ~5yrs starting this year) what do you pick?

(inb4 both cuz clearly these cubs are the fusion of the 90a braves and the 2010s giants. Duh)

Again....NOBODY has said it is the Proper way to do it.....

I like the results to date, I like the position the organization is in to improve on many levels over the next few years.

Remember the never taken 3 year wager for Good Dolphin....would you like the Cubs end or the Sox end of that wager?????

draft/sign an 18 year old today, he's not hitting his prime for another 8-10 years.

building a solid organization top to bottom is a llloooooooooooongg process.

signing second rate FA's and fill-ins, hoping to always be around .500 so that you can randomly stumble into a championship is fucking stupid.

do you have to draft all your own players? HELL NO!, but you need assets on the balance sheet.

my guess is if jerry doesn't believe in coaches then he doesn't believe in minor leagues. believes draft is a crapshoot so no difference between the pricey guy and the cheap one?

hurts his wrist to sign off on a 1M+ bonus check to a 18 y/o who may end up working at UPS in 4 years.

Jerry is VERY Anti Minor league.

he would like to have 2 teams. Upper and lower systems.

At this point in his life, he might be correct...as he doesnt care about developing players...

I would not be surprised to see him spend ever more money next year.
