The radiant was in the north, slightly west of overhead.
I was outside between 1230 and 230, saw most of the meteors heading west from that radiant point. Saw a dozen good ones, bright and fast, probably a few faint ones and two spectacular fireballs, one was really amazing, a fireball that you could see breaking up as it slowly streaked west.
You didn't watch long enough in the right spot I guess.

Another total lunar eclipse on October 8th.
If you missed the last one here's your chance to check one out. Neat.

Check out the sunset on Thursday.
There will be a partial solar eclipse. You'll get a chance to see the moon "take a bite" out of the sun.
Neat!
It's a great opportunity to bring the kids outside and enjoy a rare event!
So DO IT, SOLDIER!

We saw it! Was at baseball practice, I made the kids take turns wearing two pairs of sunglasses - they loved it!
Big bright rainbow in the sky at the same time was icing on the...um....sky cake.

Should the weather cooperate, we will see a lunar eclipse Saturday morning.
Show the kids the blood moon!

Tonight is the peak of the Lyrid Meteor Shower.
Can expect 10-15 meteors per hour in dark areas. Maybe a few nice fireballs. It's that kind of meteor shower. Fun.
If we clear up at all tonight check it out and post your sightings.

What time??

You should catch a meteor pretty much anytime. the shower is just peaking tonight so over the last week and the next several days there are opportunities to see one. Generally, the best time to see meteors is after midnight until just before dawn.

Oh I should note that the origination point of this is the constellation Lyra, which is, for most of the night just south of overhead most of the night, so meteors will go in all directions from that point, basically giving the entire sky as a point to look.

You may have noticed an oddly red tinged sun this morning. It will probably happen again tomorrow morning.
The cause of the oddly colored sun is from Canadian forest fires. The red is from smoke and ash traveling over our area absorbing certain wavelengths of light.

Cool.

Check out the western sky tonight. Venus and Jupiter will be sitting right next to each other for the next few days. Tonight will be their closest approach, when they will appear less than 1 degree apart. Very cool stuff.
Venus is the brightest object in the sky after the moon and the sun. And Jupiter ain't no slouch either.
Should make for something neat for the kids and adults alike.
