And like that millions of rallies cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Baseball will miss you Phil Coke, you gave so many teams hope.

From BleacherNation:
Quote:
The best pitch framer in baseball so far this year? That would be the Cubs’ own David Ross, according to Baseball Savant by way of this Washington Post article. More than 14% of the pitches Ross receives outside of the strike zone are called strikes (the next closest competitors are down at 11.7% (Yasmani Grandal) and 11.5% (Francisco Cervelli)). We knew that Ross – like the starting catcher ahead of him, Miguel Montero – was an excellent framer, but what I find particularly interesting about him leading the entire league is the fact that he mostly catches Jon Lester. It makes you wonder whether a catcher can become especially good at framing when he’s working consistently with a specific pitcher, especially one with excellent command like Lester. Makes sense, right? If this holds throughout the year, it is even more support for both the Ross signing and the personal catcher setup that has clearly emerged.

From Kirkwood:
I don't care. He sucks

what a bunch of morons. the pitcher is getting the call moreso than the catcher. If Ross only caught Edwin Jackson, he'd be the worst in the league.

Is he really that good at framing pitches or is he respected/befriended by the umps that much??

Maybe he should talk to Deshais and Kasper, maybe if they bitch about the calls and call the umps out on the air, they might even get better calls!!!

Look, Coghlan is a great spare part. He just screws up too often to be an everyday guy.

David Ross still sucks. He just got lucky yesterday.

Coghlan is not a great spare part at all. Either he is the player they think he is and all his batted balls become hits or he is Ryan Sweeney and he needs to go.

Ross, didnt get lucky. He spends time making that throw, to protect his buddy Lester who cant throw to first, so Ross does. He makes that throw very quick. Might be the best thing he does, yet if he was gone, it would be OK....but for what? another backup catcher?

coghlan would be a good bench OF. Lefty bat, fill in OF and pinch run. Yes that's a good spare part. or do you like mike baxter instead???

i'd like my back-up catcher to bat his weight. not an unreasonable request.

1. Cabana Boy #1 Framer has his butt buddy sitting with an over 4 ERA
2. Can't even hit a home run right. He floats the fucker so it gets robbed.
3. He still sucks so much ass.

So, in your own David Ross and Chris Coghlan Sucks Thread, you have warmed up to David Ross and you think Chris Coghlan is a decent LH bench guy?

Is that a WIN against yourself?

i've never warmed up to david ross. he sucks. cut him and make him a coach.

coghlan is miscast. i think he sucks b/c he's forced to play everyday thereby exposing his limitations.

i wouldn't hate him if he was a bench player but he's an everyday guy so here we are.

baez busting his finger screwed up my hope that bryant gets kicked to LF and baez starting knocking bombs from 3rd.

Coghlan played everyday towards the 2nd half last year and did a fine job as a leadoff man.

His bad BA this year is a mystery to me but between him and Denofrio, those are 2 solid vets I want on my team.

Chris Coghlan is doing a very nice job ever since the first couple weeks of the season.

Last month: .284/.342/.507 for an .850 OPS.

Coghlan is a nice player. Very worthy of a spot. Good last year also.

right now is the time to trade coghlan. he's performing well and it's only a matter of time before he goes back to sucking ass.

8 dingers?! his career high was 9 last year.

flip him to seattle before he crashes. demand tijuana walker or james paxton.

Funny. Poor Amaro.

Anyway, no. Keep Coghlan and keep Denorfia. Platoon them in left when Soler comes back. Do not allow Junior Lake to take another at-bat. Outfield is set.

Cogz lines out pretty often , he squares up n puts the barrell on the ball .he's a good 4 the outfielder . Ross just blows .

Yes. Coghlan had a lot of tough luck early in the season on balls he hit in play that were well struck. That luck has turned a bit now and he's turning in some better results. It is a nice platoon between the 2 of them as long as both stay healthy.

chris coghlan has been good. he can stay now.

i still don't like david ross. he hasn't been a total trainwreck lately but that isn't saying much. his "hot streak" would be considered sucking ass for 98% of mlb-ers.

I have to admit,Ross defense may be above average. I have no problem with him on the roster because you need good D for a playoff run. You have Montero for hitting.

i just checked fangraphs for catcher WAR. so.....david ross WAR = .2

beef: -.1
tyler flowers: -.2

i have to question the reliability of fg WAR. Ross can't hit for shit. his D compensate thaaat much?!

I see Ross making some nice plays. I don't follow fangraphs.
