David Letterman’s ‘Late Show’ Clips Vanish From YouTube, CBS.com

David Letterman has disappeared without a trace.
The former host of CBS’s “The Late Show” has seen all video clips of his career wiped from the late-night show’s official YouTube page, as well as CBS.com. The house-cleaning came at the end of the day on Wednesday.
“Now that the show has ended, these digital right‎s revert back to the show’s copyright owner, Worldwide Pants,” a CBS spokesperson told TheWrap.

A Worldwide Pants rep told TheWrap: “As you might imagine, there is significant interest in the Worldwide Pants-owned content. We are currently considering a range of options.”
When TheWrap called the Worldwide Pants office in New York City on Friday, there was no answer or voicemail set up. The Los Angeles office previously closed when Craig Ferguson handed the reins over to James Corden.
“There are still a handful of people in New York City handling ‘Late Show’ wind-down activities,” the WWP spokesperson explained. “We will keep you posted on future Pants plans as they become finalized.”

The new “Late Late Show” is not a Worldwide Pants production, nor is Stephen Colbert‘s version of “The Late Show,” which premieres on Sep. 8.

He has to. If he wants to make DVD sets or whatever in the future. If you do not protect and vigilantly protect and defend your copyright you can lose it in court.

In my opinion “The Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS was not as good as his previous show “Late Night with David Letterman” on NBC. I thought “The Late Show” lacked some of the creativity and edge that was evident on “Late Night”.

They'll hold them off for a while, then create a new page.

It's also possible they're looking into doing a digital deal w/ Hulu or something, some kind of best of.

But if he wants to do something like that, he has to consider buying the rights to his Late Night shows as well, to make the most of it.

Letterman is an a-hole who has sucked since somewhere around 1987ish.

Letterman isn't an ass hole. I remember at the time the deal was he owned the SHOW. That's how CBS got him. Where as NBC owned the Tonight Show. Not Leno. Not Carson before him.

So if he owns his show, why is he a dick for not taking it and trying to make money off of it? He's not.

Both an asshole and a smart businessman. The hugely successful people are usually both.

Hear hear.... What does YouTube give monetized videos/partners? A few pennies for every 100 views of the commercials packaged with the video? And I know they don't get the pittance if people got adblock-pro (cuz I've seen web ppl bitching about it) -- letterman could easily make a David letterman.com and have all the shit up and either sell subscriptions and/or advertising. Didn't he sit on a lot of the old NBC shows along with every CBS show? There ya go.

Instagram is my personal favorite. When Facebook bought them out they decided to do a really flagrant terms of service that says anything you're dumb enough to upload to them is 100% their intellectual/property to go profit off of 100$. Hell I think if you uploaded something to them and it started getting plastered on shirts/posters/mugs/etc and you were like "hey I should do that" if you started doing it yourself with your own pics they could serve you a cease and desist for profiting off if their IP.

So I remember when the new TOS was announced lots of ppl started talking about never again / i'm uninstalling instagram / etc.... But that's when the media started covering Justin bieber's latest instagrams, the kardaashian Klan, and all of the other celebs who turnedi instagram into THE PLACE TO BE!

now I don't think anyone gives a shit that they're giving ibstagram free content. Although sometimes you see chicks with 200+ pictures of JUST their cats and their feet/shoes so c'est la vie I spose!

That's what this is. It's not about being smart. He owns something that has some what of a demand and he doesn't want to give it away for free. It's just common sense.

People go on youtube to watch old episodes of a late night talk show? Fucking why? Late night talk shows are the TV equivalent of sports talk radio; its mildly entertaining when the topics are relevant but why would someone have interest in it even the day after?

Entire shows, no. Specific interviews, yes. I mean I checked out some interviews on youtube when I missed shows and knew who he had on. Then I would check out some old interviews like Howard Stern's first appearances in the mid 80s. I noticed the views. Over a million for some. So, yes, there is a demand.
