Pure Beardown speculation here.
But...
He's gotten loaded and said some hurtful stuff to a couple different people. This is a sign of a problem, yes?

Real insight, if not for the drinking then for the BernSTINE psyche.

Could be good.

I think he's just a guy who drinks discounted wine and says hurtful things to people because he feels superior to. He certainly thinks he is smarter than just about everyone he works with. He certainly thinks he's intellectually superior to everyone else in his field, at least locally. He's a bright guy. But I don't think he's nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Trust me I know the type. It takes one to know one.

I think there's enough to evidence out there to conclude that BernSTINE isn't particularly bright.

Let's not get emotional. He is intelligent. I don't doubt that. But he is no where near as smart as he thinks he is.
Smart guys get by in life. Geniuses launch rockets into space. Smart guys are well spoken. Geniuses develop nuclear theory and advanced mathematics. Smart guys suck up to the bosses and tell em what they want to hear. Geniuses cure polio.
He's not stupid. No where near it. He's certainly on the high side of average. But he's not a genius. He's not smart enough to stay the fuck offline after a bottle of knockoff cheap wine.

Don't get Emotional?

After reading your lost I'd say you should speak for yourself, pal. Have you been drinking?

He seems to exhibit one of the classic signs of problem drinking. He drinks alone alot as it seems he does not have people he has around him besides his fam and that does not count

he needs to find this place again. we embrace drinking here, and saying stupid things, for the most part. plus he'd save himself a lot of grief and he'd have a best friend in beardown.

He appears to be a joyless person, who craves attention any way he can get it.

So you guys see him as a brain, a basket case, a princess and a criminal. A drinker but not an athlete.

He says crappy things when sober too. He's not really any of these things, he's just a weasley little shit.

Agreed. He's commented on Megan Glaros's boobs on the air. Got no backlash. He was sober then. Twitter sticks. And a lot of media people follow Dan. Where as they don't hear all of his crap on the air.

I commend Ban Dernstein on his drinking problem.

Just this week, I was given the approval to resume drinking professionally as my body is only partially-damaged from alcohol abuse but cancer-free.

It's a lifestyle that is all too often discriminated against and it's time for the drunks of America to rise up or stand or just sit comfortably and demand that they be heard. And you might want to sit a while because it's probably going to be an overly long story that doesn't have a point.

I think Bernsie is a smart guy who is also very good at double-talking lawyer-speak and sounding smarter than he is. Someone here once said that he's a dumb person's idea of what a smart person sounds like, and I don't necessarily disagree with that. If you pay attention, as many of us here either have done over the years or still do, he contradicts himself quite a bit and doesn't sound all that smart.

I also think that at this point in his career at WSCR, especially over the last five to eight years, he's said more small-minded and ignorant things than North did during his time at the station. He has essentially become Mike North with a better vocabulary.

As for his alleged drinking problem...I dunno. It would make sense, but he says a lot of similar shit in the middle of the day when he's presumably stone cold sober.

He's not smart. Most of his knowledge is surface-level fluff that anyone with access to wikipedia could get for their own grown-ass self. He speaks like he has in-depth knowledge of subjects and he sounds informed on the radio. This isn't hard for anyone to do if no one is questioning your information and you are controlling the radio conversation. Just find some terminology that sounds important. He also uses white lies to connect himself to events and people. Like for instance yesterday I heard Dan say he "sparred with Phil Jackson" when he covered the Bulls. Does anyone actually believe that? That he went hard at a title-winning coach when he was some young punk? But it's half true because Dan did cover the Bulls. The white lie makes him out to be some hard-hitting journalist. He does the same thing with fishing. Mentions a few lure types or fishing tactics to make himself out to be some outdoorsman.

The only thing Bernsie has is vocabulary and inflection. Any old timer recalls him in the old days. Funny Terry was the one that mocked him the most. He "branded" himself with his giant "The Score" at the end of his hits. Fake all along.

As I watch Cheryl Scott tell me nothing of critical importance but knowledge nonetheless, I read this and extend my 100% ethusiastic endorsement of your conclusion!

You could begin or end almost any story related to him and "weasley little shit" would roll along perfectly!

Think of any Bernstein related thought, proclamation, description, etc. Add WLS and it works.

It rhymes with ALS and thus he wins again.

Dan used to state unequivocally that Wanny used to consult him about schemes and other critical decisions.
