LOL, you would actually negotiate a job for 50k? What the fuck are you a high school drop out? I mean, if you're really sucking dick all day, the discharge alone should be proper payment for your skills, but if you're doing actual work, making under 50k in this day and age and in the metro Chicagoland area means you just got raped financially.

Fucking skill-less poor people, I laugh at you fucking fight for 15 losers.

I'm curious why they want you to sign a contract? What if you sign it and tell them to fuck off in a month?

Madison WI?

What the hell do you do for a living, run a toilet in a fast food restaurant? You should be starting at 75k in Madison for any salaried position unless of course youre managing people who smell like hot cooking fat. Stop making excuses because you negotiated a bad deal, 50k anywhere for a salaried job means you're being laughed at by the people who hired you, and on top of it, they got the best of you. Next time you ask for a raise and they tell you no, trust me, they will snicker amongst themselves at your 50k a year stipend.

Jimmy Thick- Had a job at Epic, make 200k my first year 7 years ago, yeah blame it on Madison...

Median household income in Madison is about $54,000.

Has nothing to do with progressive. Using equipment that could cause injuries or death, insurance companies are not big into insuring someone who is high from hs wake and bake, then drove the forklift into 3 cars in the parking lot.

Its a HUGE issue in the workplace for those who work labor jobs. How is something legal to do, not allowed to do per your job.

i dont think the median income correlates to the number of people who actually make that number... you have a lot of rich living in madison that throws off the scale in that sense.

madison is much cheaper than chicago to live, so $50k you can live very nice.

and yeah i guess no drug test. not that it matters, i would pass no problem. i have you all believing im an addict but the reality is i hardly ever drink. youre all really easy to fool.

its all about insurance premiums. if its a high risk job there can be big discounts if you test your employees. this job would be relatively low risk, so the discount is likely negligible and the owner simply doesnt want to pay for the tests. plus its a small enough company that the owner knows everyone and if he thinks youre an addict hell just fire you. it is wisconsin, companies dont need a reason to let people go.

Back when I was working third shift when I was in college at Home Depot off Verona rd in Madison, they had this huge sign stating they did drug testing but I was never tested. Only time I ever saw a drug test was at that Home Depot where some guy driving a forklift hit a desk, destroying it, and did over 30k in damage to all the computer fiber optics and connections and such.

I worked at Epic for five years and made over a million dollars in salary and never took a single drug test, Epic has very little turnover of salaried employees, the temps are just that.

That being said, Madison in general is more of a temp agency hiring state than full blown direct hires now, which is good for the employers, bad for the workers. The unions up here are completely impotent. But drug testing not really, its sadly cheaper to just bypass drug testing now, which as an employee I would be horrified by because I don't want a moron on drugs working with me.

I'm honestly thankful to be working in the Rockford area.

54K is the income midpoint in Madison, meaning 50% of all households earn 54K or more, and 50% of all households earn 54K or less.

31K is the average income in Madison, which may be skewed downward by the area's dependence on low-wage student labor.

50K for a salaried employee is like bottom of the barrel wages, that's a small step above fast food restaurant general manager. Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Woodmans assistant managers start at over 55k, if you take a salaried position for at around 50k or under you got screwed over.

Not everyone can be in the 1%. Lower paying jobs need to be filed and done too. Maybe Ike is being paid what he is worth?

Agreed, though I think Ike should try to negotiate a base salary that pays at least the median for the area in which he resides (especially given that he has discussed his significant technical skills and extensive work history here in the past). Bonuses can be a funny thing, depending on the employer.

Keep in mind that "median household income" is not the same (or in my estimation anywhere near the same) as "median salary." Many households, especially those working in lower-end jobs, have more than one earner, and household income includes other forms of income besides earnings from work. I highly doubt that half the people in Madison who have jobs are earning over $54k from those jobs.

Right, but my guess would be that the median income is closer to 54K than it is 31K. Additionally, Ike has mentioned in the past that his line of work requires significant training and skill, so I would negotiate up if I were him.

um... the statistics prove the average individual in madison makes 31k/yr. its not debatable. I also happen to live in the area and know what most people make, and $31k is what most 'normal' jobs offer. entry level jobs around here are $24k/yr at best. this isn't chicago, you actually can live on $30k a year, its just really hard to without a 2nd income/roomate.

and I haven't seen the contract yet. if they offer me anything lower that what we agreed to verbally I won't sign it. i am fully aware the 'bonuses' and 'overtime' mean nothing. if those come some day, great, but im not taking the job on promises or hopefuls.
