Jr Captain Serious...

FYI, he even Drinks serious!

That really does show one thing, of how much potential was in that logo and organization for years, just needed to be unlocked.

Granted, I would not have estimated it would have got here they are, but a major upswing was a no brainer...

The Hawks are fringing on being the crossover of sports....the team that takes Hockey one step closer to NBA fan numbers the longer they dominate and find personalities that appeal to a national level...

and at the same time, make the old time hockey fans hate them for the exact same reason.

I was under the assumption those were shipped to you, wholesale. I figure you only need one accordion, and pies to the face would get quite expensive in a short amount of time so I pegged you for a rubber chicken guy.

35 games in with 82 game pace in parentheses:

Pts - 21 (49)
Goals - 11 (26) - 3 goals in the fake-ass playground 3v3 OT
Assists - 10 (23)
CF% - 53.7 (lowest since rookie year)
FF% - 52.1 (lowest since rookie year)

Hawks are paying $10.50M for a low-end 2nd/high end 3rd-line center. Nice!

Toews importance to this team cannot be seen in stats.

He should rape a woman this off-season, he will then put up MVP-like numbers.

But that's Marcus Kruger (0 G, 1 A) talk. Thankfully, he's trending up, but your #1 center can't be held off the score sheet for weeks at a time.

Yes it is.

Toews has proven himself time and time again.

Without him the Hawks do not have 3 cups. It is that simple.

Without him the championship window going forward shrinks considerably.

I will take my chances with him and his cap number going forward.

I am as frustrated as anybody with the longs stretches where Toews does not score. In an ideal world, he would be the Hawks point leader. I fought this battle a lot at the beginning of last year.

Now, I am just resigned to the fact that Toews will never be a pure scorer despite his immense talent. Maybe he defers to teammates, maybe it's because he is up against the other teams' top lines. I guess it doesn't matter. The Hawks have already banked three Cups. He obviously provides lots of locker room leadership. He is great on draws. He helps neutralize the other teams' best scorers. He plays hard on both ends of the ice.

I have issues with Crawford, Toews, and Coach Q, which I have grumbled about in the show threads. But the whole Hawks thing just works. I'll take that over most other scenarios because championships are how teams are measured, and rightly so.

Somebody start one of those polls ... which is the worst:

Frank's Baseball 'Thoughts'
Scorehead's Football 'Thoughts'
Kirkwood's Hockey 'Thoughts'

I guess that where Im sorta at as well. He's frustrating the shit out of me this year with going 4,5,6 games at a time without a point. He's not a prototypical number 1 center offensively. Yet you cant argue with the results. #3Cups in 6 years. If Toews scores 80 points a year do they have more? who knows? Probably the best leader since Yzerman. Consistently plays the other teams top line to a stand off. At this point the end justifies the means.

No, I addressed this already and it's not true. You can't say Toews will "never" be a pure scorer when he scored at nearly a point-per-game rate for years, which is about as close to pure as you're gonna get in the West these days. It's only been this year and last that his scoring has dropped off a cliff. That's cause for concern, even if we're in this so-called dark age of #1 centers with Kopitar and Crosby struggling to put points up as well. I don't know whether it's one nagging injury or a bunch of little ones, but he has not been himself this year, no matter how much some haughty dipshit like Scorehead wants to chortle every time he scores three-on-three. He's put a lot of hard miles on to the point where I would experiment with giving him a lost weekend around the all-star break just to make sure he has something, anything left for the playoffs.

CH is right. He was a guy who scored at nearly a point per game and now he's a just a better version of Marcus Kruger. He should be held to higher expectations. He does do the little things great and plays great on defense but when you're the highest paid player in the game you can't not score like he is. It's been a very disappointing year so far and he deserves more critism. Hopefully he snaps out of it.

Amend that last line to .600, eek. But yeah, that's not a guy who has never put up points at a high level.

I'm going to say part of it is who he is paired with last couple years as well. That has to be taken into consideration .

Unless I am missing something, his high water mark in goals is 34. The whole points thing is fine, but let's be honest, pure scores put the puck in the back of the net.

NHL top guy:

14/15- 53
13/14- 51
12/13- 32 (only 48 games played)
11/12- 60
10/11- 50

To me, this equates to calling Toews a great home run hitter, when he is way below the top guy(s) in the league every year. If we're going by points, then maybe you equate that to RBI. I stand by my comments.

Coasting?

Really?

One thing is for sure...he's traditionally fallen off after the all star break...that would not be a good thing this season.
